1. cred= believe

Creed- a system of beliefs, principles, or opinions

Credence- condition of being true

Credit- belief or confidence in the truth of something

Credo- to believe

Credulous- having to do with believing too readily

Incredulous- having to do with being unbelieving

Incredible- beyond belief or understanding


2. tact, tang, tag, tig, ting = touch

Tactile- perceptible to the sense of touch

Contact- a touching together of objects or surfaces

Intact- remaining entire and untouched

Intangible- not able to be touched

Tangible- able to be touched

Contagious- having to do with spreading by touching together

Contiguous- having to do with touching together

3. rupt = break

Erupt- to break violently from restraints or limits

Rupture- to break open

Interrupt- to break the continuity or uniform of

Abrupt- breaking unexpectedly

Disrupt- to break into confusion or disorder

4. pater, patr = father

Paternity- the condition of being a father

Patriarch- a father/ male who rules a family, clan, or tribe

5. matri = mother

Maternal- having to do with characteristics of a mother

Matriarchate- a mother/ female who rules a family, clan, or tribe

Matron- a woman, especially a mother of dignity, mature age, and established social position

6. ject = throw

Deject- to throw away/ lower the spirits of

Inject- to throw/ force into something

Eject- to throw out forcefully

Interject- to throw/ insert between other elements

7. hetero = different

Heterogeneous- having to do with different races/kinds

Heterodox- having different beliefs that are not in agreement with accepted beliefs

Heterodont- having teeth of different shapes, such as the molars and incisors of humans

8. homo = same

Homogenous- having to do with being the same

Homonym- one of two or more words that have the same sound and often the same spelling but differ in meaning

Homogenize- to make the same

Homodont- having teeth that are all the same type

9. scrib, script = write

Scribe- one who writes

Scribble- to write hurriedly and messily

Inscribe- to write on a surface

Describe- to give an account of in speech or writing

Subscribe- to write one’s name to pledge or contribute

Prescribe- to order the use of, especially in writing

Manuscript- a book, document, or other composition written by hand

10. sphere = ball

Hemisphere- a half of a ball/ sphere bounded by a great circle

Spheroid- resembling a ball/ sphere
