Beets Lab ( Ooooh! What’s that?) A Sample Population
Hypothesis:
(consider writing this later)
Materials: Petri Dish, 3 slices of beet, labels
Methods:
1) Label underside of petri dish A,B,C using 3 pieces of tape
2) Place slices of beet over each label
3) Decide, as a group, where to take TWO samples from
4) Collect samples using swabs and smear over one slice of beet
5) Close plate
6) Write observations on each beet using as many descriptions as you can
7) Note every, and any, changes you observe each day
We collected from the following locations:
Beet A: ______
Beet B: ______
Beet C: I did not put anything on this beet.
DATE / BEET A / BEET B / BEET CDATE / BEET A / BEET B / BEET C
Conclusions:
1. Describe how things grew over time. Use specific examples from each beet.
2. Give an example of a control used in this experiment. Why was it important to include this control in your experiment.
3. Restate your hypothesis. Did the data you collected support your hypothesis?
4. How were food and water requirements supplied to support this growth?
5. What would you expect for the future of your sample? Why? Examples from data?
6. What does this data suggest for populations living on the earth?
