Charleston, W.Va. – January 9, 2014 – The Legislature Today, West Virginia’s only statewide source for in-depth coverage of legislative issues and debates, begins its 21st season on Monday. The program airs live Monday through Friday at 6:30 p.m. on West Virginia PBS and West Virginia Public Radio. There will also be a rebroadcast at 11:30 p.m. on WV PBS each week night and at 6 a.m. the next day on WV PBS.2.*
“For 21 years, West Virginia Public Broadcasting has been the only media outlet with a daily television program dedicated to the stories of how our state legislature works and what’s important to our state’s citizens,” said Scott Finn, executive director. “This year we are simulcasting the live program on statewide public radio for the first time. We will also have digital features on our website and social media.”
Producer and host Beth Vorhees will be joined by reporters Aaron Payne covering the House of Delegates, and Ashton Marra, covering the Senate. Dave Mistich will cover committee meetings and evening sessions and report progress at wvpublic.org and @wvpubnews on Twitter.
Each half-hour program includes reports from the floors of both houses along with committee news and live on-set interviews. The first week of the program features the following guests:
Monday, Jan. 13 -- Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin
Tuesday, Jan. 14 -- Senate President Jeff Kessler
Wednesday, Jan. 15 -- House Speaker Tim Miley
Thursday, Jan. 16 -- Sen. Mike Hall, Senate Minority Leader, and Del. Tim Armstead, House Minority Leader
The Legislature Today will replace Nightly Business Report on WV PBS during the legislative session. On West Virginia Public Radio, Marketplace will move to 6 p.m.
