Weaver Valley Project—Brief Update

Strategic Aims of the Weaver Valley Project

· Act as a significant economic driver for this sub-region of Cheshire

· Provide growth for the Region’s tourism sector and cultural economy

· Establish greater awareness, pride, ownership and use of the Weaver Valley as an exceptional amenity for residents, visitors and businesses

· Radically change the image of the area and provide a high quality of life setting and environment for residents, visitors and businesses

The formal launch of the project has been delayed by the Local Government reorganization

The documents produced, are acknowledged as inspirational rather than being based on sub projects which have been fully budgeted and programmed

There are still some aspects of the project which require resolution and clarification, is it driven by desire to achieve economic regeneration, or is it targeting tourism

What is happening is that groups, towns are being encouraged to work together, to build partnerships and deliver more than if they continue to operate on their own, eg Clusters, such as Restaurants & Food, Waterways & Transport are being developed, last year, the year of gardens, was judged to have had a hugely beneficial impact on the businesses involved and the economic spin off.
