VACANCY NOTICE

MEDICAL OFFICER

The Government of Montserrat is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons for the post of Medical Officer, within the Ministry of Health and Social Services.

JOB PURPOSE

To assist in providing acute medical services and “on call” general services to the population of Montserrat

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

· To provide general medical services in the Government of Montserrat medical and elderly care facilities.

· To be responsible for the clinical management of patients with oversight by specialist Medical Officers.

· To be responsible for timely and effective referral to the appropriate on island specialist Medical Officer and/or overseas medical facility.

· To collaborate with relevant persons as per medical evacuation procedures to arrange the safe transfer of patients overseas for treatment.

· To provide out of hours medical services as per the Medical Officer on-call rotation.

· To ensure implementation of an appropriate triage system within the Accident and Emergency Department of the Ministry of Health hospital facility.

· To provide, in a timely manner, medico-legal reports as required.

· To engage with the Chief Medical Officer and Specialist Medical Officer(s) during a medical evacuation as per a defined protocol.

CANDIDATES QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE PROFILE

The applicants must:

· Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent from a recognized medical University.

· Three (3) years post-graduation experience.

· Advanced certificate or Diploma in Emergency Medicine would be an asset.

· Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification a plus.

· Significant experience in acute medicine would be an asset.

· Good interpersonal skills.

Applicants should also be willing to keep abreast of developments in the field.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENGAGEMENT

Appointment will be made on a permanent or Contractual basis.

REMUNERATION PACKAGE

The annual remuneration package for the post of Medical Officer is in the salary scale R12 – R9, that is EC$65,232 to EC$70,092 (Taxable)

Allowances

· Professional Fee - EC$54,000 per annum (Taxable)

· Travel - EC$9,600 per annum

· Telephone - EC$720 per annum (Taxable)

· Housing - Ec$18,000 per annum
