BAKER: William J. (Bill) Baker, age 90, born in Groningen, The Netherlands, died peacefully at his home in Jenison on Wednesday, March 9, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lynn; son, Richard; infant son; and great-granddaughter, Madeline Morrow. Surviving are his children, Elsa and Clarence Slomp, Korry and Doug Hoeksema, Louise Baker, Aileen and Dave VanHouten, Margaret and Paul Champion, Herm Baker, and Jenni Baker; daughter-in-law Bonnie (Steve) Baker-Harris; 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, Brandon and Jacki Slomp (Victoria, Averi), Devon and Janessa Slomp (Dylan, Jayden, Evelynn), Ryan and Carol Slomp (Isabella, Aleena), Hilaree Clark (Kendell, Connor), Scott and Rhonda Baker (Kyle, Jarrett, Maddie, Allen), Stephanie and Tony Wicksall, Kendra and Scott Chapman (Brody, Brynn), Andrea and Ward Morrow (Ward, Nate, Nick), Paul Champion III, Dana Champion, Savanna Champion, Aaron Baker, and Griffin Baker. Also surviving are his four siblings in the Netherlands, Martje Bakker, Riekel (Thea) Bakker, Jento (Loeki) Bakker, and Bram (Irene) Bakker; as well as many special friends and relatives in both the Netherlands and Canada. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Ridgewood Christian Reformed Church, 1571 Baldwin St., Jenison, with Rev. Karl Van Harn officiating. A private family graveside service will be held at Grandville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday 4-8 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home, (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. and Saturday from 12-12:45 pm prior to the service at the church.
