TITLE: SEXUAL ASSAULT CASE MANAGER

DEPARTMENT: Advocate Program

REPORTS TO: PROGRAM DIRECTOR

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full time

CLASSIFICATION LEVEL: Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY: Provide crisis intervention, case management, advocacy and follow-up services to victims of rape, sexual assault and sexual abuse; provide comprehensive services in partnership with police, district attorney and other community-based agencies serving victims of sexual assault. Stationed at Buffalo Police Department Sex Offense Section.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Maintain a commitment to the mission and work of Crisis Services with a deep appreciation for and sensitivity to the guiding principles of the organization.

2. Possess strong knowledge of domestic violence, sexual violence, and crisis intervention and community wide resources.

3. Assist in ensuring provision of Advocate Program services co-located at the Buffalo Police Department Sex Offense Section and other police jurisdictions

4. Provide follow up and case management services to assist with: reduction in victimization, increased level of functioning, improved capacity for independence, reduction in level of isolation.

5. Perform follow-up home visits/outreach to clients.

6. Provide on-site crisis intervention response to victims of rape/sexual assault at police precincts, district attorney’s office and other community-based locations.

7. Assist in obtaining NYS Office of Victim Services compensation.

8. Provide Criminal Justice Support and Personal Advocacy.

9. Assist in maintaining 24 Hour Hotline.

10. Maintain appropriate client records, analyze and report client and program data; Maintain client database.

11. Provide 24 hour on-call direct service and/or consultation to volunteer advocates.

12. Assist in advocate training/community events, speaking engagements as directed by Director

13. Must have valid, clean NYS driver’s license, and access to an automobile.

14. Must have successfully complete Advocate program training.

15. Perform all duties required to achieve OVS objectives.

16. Perform other duties as assigned by Director

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge: Possess demonstrated knowledge of domestic and sexual violence dynamics and effects, public awareness and crisis intervention services. Superior knowledge of HIPAA laws/regulations with regard to code of ethics, confidentiality and privacy principles. Ability to: Work independently and as part of a team. Excellent observation, problem solving, conflict management, organizational and time management skills. Demonstrate high level of compassion and empathy, confidentiality and understanding for clients. Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication with clients, supervisor, staff, and other departments; Exercise sound judgment and discretion; Be reliable and consistent in attendance, punctuality, work ethic and professionalism; Manage multiple tasks, and establish priorities in a rapidly changing and fast paced environment.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree and/ or Master’s Degree from an accredited college and/or university in human service field, sociology, psychology, social work or relevant field.

Experience: Bachelors Degree plus minimum 3 (two) years professional experience OR Master’s degree plus minimum 1 (one) year professional experience in human service industry; preferably providing direct services in sexual assault prevention work. Experience with crisis situations and quickly establishing rapport with clients preferred. Demonstrated ability and experience working with diverse populations.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Will maintain productive relationships with agency management, program staff, volunteers, union officials and employees.

External: Will work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders (e.g. hospitals, law enforcement agencies, community service organizations, government agencies, courts and families) to provide a comprehensive range of services including advocacy, counseling, crisis intervention, support and guidance to meet the needs of the clients and their families.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

· Professional office environment; no exposures to extreme heat, cold, dust, noise.

· Travel is required.

· 40 hours per week

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Combination of occasional traveling, standing, sitting, bending and reaching required. Comfortable performing faced paced, multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.
