The Stamp Act

Standard:

SS8H3.A - Explain the immediate and long-term causes of the American Revolution and their impact on Georgia; include the French and Indian War (i.e., Seven Years War), Proclamation of 1763, Stamp Act, Intolerable Acts, and the Declaration of Independence.

1. Describe it –– Define the Stamp Act. List all items that were taxed under the Stamp Act. This must be at least two sentences in length.

2. Compare it – How is the Stamp Act similar to the Sugar Act or the Intolerable Acts? How is the Stamp Act different from the Sugar Act or the Intolerable Acts? Explain! This must be at least three sentences in length.

3. Associate it – Tell your feelings about the Stamp Act. How does the Stamp Act connect to other issues/subject? Think about how it may relate to issues in the present day. This must be at least three sentences in length.

4. Analyze it – Make a timeline of the events that caused the Stamp Act. Also, draw a picture of the items that were taxed under the Stamp Act. Finally, write a two-sentence explanation of how the colonists felt about the Stamp Act.

5. Apply it – Pretend that you are a journalist (writer of a newspaper) during the year of 1765. Write a short newspaper article, which explains the Stamp Act, the reasons for the Stamp Act, and the negative sides of the Stamp Act. In the article, try to persuade the readers to rebel and boycott all paper products. The article must be at least five sentences in length.

6. Argue for or against it- In your opinion, was the Stamp Act fair and necessary? If you believe that it was fair, write an explanation supported by evidence. If you think that it was unfair, write an explanation supported by evidence. This must be at least three sentences in length.
