August 4, 2014

Dear Einstein Student:

Welcome to a new school year at Albert Einstein High School. We are hoping the 2014-15 school year will be as successful as the previous year. This last school year we, once again, ranked exceptionally well on the Washington Post’s Challenge Index which measures Advanced Placement participation and scores, placing 497 out of 22,000 high schools in the United States. Also, 86% of the Class of 2014 went to college on over 19 million dollars in scholarships.

There will be approximately 1,670 of you this year, and opening day for grades 9-12 is August 25. Your final schedule will be ready when you arrive, and your bus schedule is enclosed in this mailing. Ninth grade and new students will report on Thursday, August 21, 2014, for an orientation and picnic. The orientation for ninth grade and new students (to acquaint you with your new school and teachers) will be from 7:30 a.m. until 10:10 a.m., with a picnic for ninth grade, new students and parents/guardians beginning at 10:10 a.m. to 11:10 a.m. Refer to the enclosed bus schedule. If you are eligible to ride a bus, it will run the regular a.m. route pick up site on orientation day, August 21, and buses will leave Einstein at 11:10 a.m. to return students to their route drop off site. This is a very important activity; please plan to attend. If it is impossible to be there, you will need to check homeroom lists posted in the hallways on the first day of school, August 25.

As we have done with you since you entered Einstein, we will continue to encourage you to take challenging classes. If you should be in an Honors or Advanced Placement class and have not registered, remember that colleges are looking at your grades and type of courses you took. Have you taken the SAT or ACT yet? Are you ready for it? Have you signed up for the SAT prep class offered in school? If you are a senior, have you checked with our career information coordinator about financial aid and the many scholarships available to you? Let’s go folks. Mom, Dad, and Guardians, cannot do everything for you. It is your future, your call. Please ask if you are not sure of when and where to apply to college or any other assistance.

Lunch will, again, be 50 minutes. STUDENTS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO LEAVE SCHOOL PROPERTY DURING LUNCH. WE DO NOT HAVE AN OPEN LUNCH PERIOD. Our hope with one lunch is that kids will have the opportunity to meet with teachers for class help, meet with clubs, or do activities throughout the building, etc. Cell phones may be used until the 7:20 a.m. bell, during lunch and between classes.

Please remember that there is an expectation that what you wear to school is appropriate to be worn in a public school setting. We do not permit clothing that supports or indicates alcohol, illegal substances or weapons. Hats are not permitted to be worn in the building.

You will receive the form to participate in extracurricular activities by separate mailing from Montgomery County Public Schools’ Central Office.

I hope that you had a great summer, intend to take your education, which determines your future, seriously and that you are looking forward to a productive and fun year. See you soon.

Sincerely,

James G. Fernandez

Principal
