Included in this issue are the applications for the annual Spring Training Day and the Training Day agenda. The Training Day this year is scheduled for Sunday, March 13, 2011 and will begin with registration at 7:30 am. This may be your first opportunity to get your dog “on birds” before the Spring hunt test season. There will be experienced dog handlers to work with you and your dog On Hunt Test requirements at your entry level.

Look forward to seeing you there.

MESSAGE FROM JOHN NAUGHTON, Hunt Test Chair:

MDGSP Spring Hunt Test

March 19-20, 2011

The Mason Dixon GSP Club’s Spring Hunt Test will be held March 19-20, 2011 at the McKee Beshers Wildlife Management Area Sycamore Landing Road grounds. The test is open to all AKC pointing breeds. We will be testing Master, Senior and Junior Hunters on both days. This is an excellent way to enjoy your dog and to socialize with other enthusiasts. Also, don’t forget about the clubs training day on March 13, 2011 at the same location. It’s the perfect way to sharpen up your dog for the test. We will review and demonstrate the testing procedure. Experienced handlers will be available to work with you and your dog on quail or chuckars. We welcome all to participate and look forward to seeing you.

Mason-Dixon GSP Club’s Rescue Column

Rescue Chairperson– Vacant

The Rescue Column always seems to begin by saying Rescue needs your help. We need volunteers, transport people, Home checks and foster homes. The need does not seem to go away because the dogs keep coming in for Rescue’s help.

Fostering is still an important task that requires your help. If you have always wanted a second GSP but weren’t ready for the long term commitment, foster may be the answer for you. Not know what’s involved? Now it is written down and available. You can find it at the clubs web site, WWW.MDGSPCLUB.NETKENNEL.COM.

Mason - Dixon Rescue Micro Chips Mason - Dixon GSP Club Rescue has purchased micro chips from Companion Animal Recovery (part of the AKC). This is a service to the members of the MDGSP Club. Micro chips are a positive method to have your dog identified if lost. Humane societies and shelters as well as veterinarian’s check for micro chip ID's and then call the registered owner for animal recovery. We are offering these chips and service, including registration for $25.00. They can be inserted at club events. If you are a breeder and want to micro chip a whole litter we can do a deal. Purchase of MDGSP rescue items or Micro - chipping services support the clubs fund to support National and Mid - Atlantic GSP Rescue.
