SUMMARY

Bering Straits Native Corporation is currently seeking a qualified full-time Payroll Technician I in Anchorage, AK. The Payroll Technician I duties include preparing, processing, and reconciling payroll for employees in multiple states and multiple companies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Entering and reviewing weekly, bi-weekly and semi-monthly timesheets for union, SCA, and non-union employees.
  • Process and review weekly and bi-weekly payrolls for taxes, medical and other deductions.
  • Enter payroll information in CostPoint.
  • Calculation of exception items such as bonuses, garnishments, and termination.
  • Process employment verifications.
  • Assist in tax related issues.
  • Submit 401K, garnishments, union payments, child support and tax payments for payment.
  • Responsible for compiling, copying and insuring all filing and payroll reports are filed accurately and timely.
  • Reviews and updates employee leave records.
  • Processing weekly certified reports and monthly union reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

Required (Minimum) Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years’ payroll experience.
  • Ten key by touch.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
  • Managing one's own time and coordinating time with others.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
  • Using computers and computer system software, enter data, or process information.
  • Ability to meet weekly deadlines.
  • Ability to balance multiple competing priorities under deadlines.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and able to work in a team environment.
  • Dependable and punctual.

Preferred

  • Five (5) years payroll experience.
  • Multi-company payroll experience.
  • CostPoint experience.
  • Deltek Time & Expense experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse and multi-line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily a modern office setting. Occasional travel may be required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • No supervisory responsibilities.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results to obtain access to military base. Must have reliable transportation to/from work a necessity and must be able to obtain access to military installations.
