The Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet is seeking applications for a Medical Examiner II Position at the Office at the Western Kentucky Regional Medical Examiner in Madisonville, Kentucky

The Office of the Kentucky Medical Examiner within the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet announces an opening for a full-time forensic pathologist available April 12, 2012, in Madisonville, Kentucky (Hopkins County). The successful candidate will be in a solo practice, with good, full-time on-site administrative and technical support. Vacation/ off-time coverage, a quality assurance program, neuropathology, and educational seminar participation are supported by full time, board-certified forensic pathologists in the NAME-accredited Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Louisville, Kentucky. The facility (built specifically for the Western Kentucky Regional Medical Examiner) is 12 years old, and in pristine condition. The Western Kentucky Regional Medical Examiner office serves both metropolitan and rural areas in western Kentucky. The area is rich with outdoor activities, with such local treasures as Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area (www.kentuckylake.com/lbl) and other settings for the outdoor enthusiast, coupled with a very affordable cost of living, and a relaxed “southern living” atmosphere. The average total caseload (including external examinations) is consistently around 200-250 cases per year, with weekend and holiday coverage shared equitably with the OCME in Louisville. The Kentucky Medical Examiner Office has a long history of stability. Salary range, based on the state employee salary grade, is $96,744 -- $154,788, with full benefits, including healthcare, participation in the state retirement system and options to participate in the deferred compensation program.

This state position requires board certification or eligibility by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Forensic Pathology and licensure to practice medicine in the state of Kentucky at the time of employment. Applications will be accepted until a candidate is chosen.
