The Congress of Connecticut Community Colleges

President’s Report: March 22, 2012

Steven E. Cohen

The following list highlights the primary issues that have arisen, and those important activities that have transpired, since our March 3, 2012 Delegate Assembly meeting:

1- BOR

The BOR has adopted the proposed Transfer and Articulation Policy. This policy adoption also includes the development of a competency-based 30-credit common general education core.

2- PAC

The PAC is in need of additional contributions from members, and donations continue to be solicited statewide.

3- LOB

A number of Bills have been raised, or are being considered, which will or might impact the Community Colleges and 4C’s members. Our lobbyist, Bob Shea, continues to track these. Political Director Bob Fernandez and I have testified and chatted with the Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee co-chairs and other committee members concerning such Bills. The 4C’s website is being updated regularly to provide information concerning any such Bills, and email Updates are being sent regularly to our members.

4- SEBAC

The Hybrid retirement plan is scheduled to open for enrollment on April 1st. Three informational Webinars for 4C’s members will be conduced the last week in March. State Comptroller Lembo met with SEBAC leaders March 21, 2012. He informed us that in April, state employees participating in the Health Enhancement Plan (HEP) will receive a letter from the insurance companies involved which will give employees an update on their compliance and also allow employees to update their compliance status.
