TD Garden (Boston Celtics)

History

The roots of the TD Garden dates back all the way to when Calvin Coolidge was the President of the United States. On November 17, 1929 the Garden was officially opened on Causeway Street, creating a legendary facility. The name has been changed several times but what has not changed is the atmosphere for entertainment and sports. The creator of the TD Garden, Tex Rickards, had dreams and aspirations to making it the hottest spot in New England for concerts and sporting Events. What he did not know was that these dreams would come true. The old Boston Garden came to an end on September 29, 1995, where the name switched to the FleetCenter. Its name again then changed from the FleetCenter to the official TD Garden on March 3, 2005. The companies TD Banknorth Inc. and Delaware North Company reached a 20-year agreement to have the naming rights of the sport facility.

Owned by:

Delaware North Company is the official owner of the TD Garden and is privately financed and owned.

Total Stadium Size:

TD Garden occupies 755,000 square feet, which calculates to over 3.2 acres. This also includes the five level parking garage located under the stadium. The base dimensions of the site are 468 feet long by 300 feet wide and sit ten stories high.

Location:

The location of this beautiful facility is apart of the North section of downtown Boston, Massachusetts. There are multiple ways of getting to the stadium, but one of the most interesting is the transportation by train. A train station runs right through the stadium and allows people to enter the game this way. I have had the pleasure of touring TD Garden and even when games are not playing, people are allowed to walk around and eat in their three privately owned restaurants. On game day, traffic can be as hectic as any other stadium so it is wise to take the train fare. Four different streets (Leverett, Storrow, Martha, and Causeway) are notorious for being backed up on game day; the backups usually start an hour before the game starts.
