The Board of Commissioners of Lorain County, Ohio met this day in a regular meeting, in the J. Grant Keys Administration Building,

226 Middle Avenue, Elyria, Ohio, at 9:35 a.m. with the following members present: Commissioner Matt Lundy, President, Commissioner Ted

Kalo, Vice-President and Commissioner Lori Kokoski, Member and Janice Mokosh, Secretary, Clerk Theresa L. Upton, absent.

Commissioners said the Pledge of Allegiance.

Commissioner Lundy gave an inspirational word from the book of Matthew.

Commissioner Kokoski presented a 4 year old male Beichon mix that is available for adoption on Saturday, or choose from other dogs available at the Dog Kennel.

9:35 a.m. American Recycles Day – Brandi Schnell, LCSWMD

Commissioners presented a proclamation proclaiming November 15 as American Recycles Day.

Mrs. Schnell stated the following events will take place for American Recycles Day

Carlisle Visitors Center, 12882 Diagonal Road, LaGrange, OH 44050:

2017 LCSWMD Calendar Contest Artwork Display

·  Enlarged posters of the winning 2016 LCSWMD Calendar Contest is on display November 4th – 20th, 2016 in the main hallway at Carlisle Visitors Center.

Rain Barrel Contest

·  Lorain County residents over age 13 are eligible to enter the contest for a Rain Barrel taking place at the CVC between 11/4/16 – 11/20/16

Pledge Cards & ARD Giveaways

·  Pencils, notepads & calendars will be available for attendees

·  Literature on District programs and other information will be available

·  Pledge cards collected in box to be counted by LCSWMD when event is wrapped up on 11/21/16.

Lorain County Website Pledge Card 11/4 – 11/30/2016

·  An interactive pledge card will be placed on the county website for people to fill out online. Their pledge will be directly emailed to Brandi Schnell to be counted.

·  Once the pledge card ‘goes live’ - Information directing the public to the online pledge card will be included on the Lorain County Commissioner’s and Lorain County Solid Waste Facebook pages and Twitter feeds.

Proclamation by Commissioners 11/9/16

·  America Recycles Day 2016 is on the Commissioner’s Meeting Agenda for November 9, 2016. At this meeting a list of events taking place for ARD 2016 will be read, and the Commissioner’s will proclaim November 15, 2016 as America Recycles Day in Lorain County.

America Recycles Day Table in Student Center on 11/15/16

·  There will be a table with pledge cards and giveaways set up in the Student Center on the LCCC campus and run by student volunteers. Pledge cards will be returned to LCSWMD to be counted.

Lorain County Schools:

Pledge Sheets & “Pizza Party” Contest 10/27/16 - 11/11/16

·  Every school in Lorain County will be given an America Recycles Day pledge sheet for each class in their school. The teacher will have their students read and sign the pledge sheet and the teacher will make a copy for the class to display to remind the students of the importance of recycling. The pledge sheet (or copy) will be sent back to us and each teacher who returns their pledge sheet will be entered into a drawing to win a classroom pizza party.

·  The pizza party drawing will occur at the November 16, 2016 Lorain County Board of Commissioner’s meeting. Then the winning teacher will be notified.

·  We will be pulling TWO winning classes this year!

Fairs/Festivals:

Pledge Drive at Lorain County Festivals/Fairs

·  Pat McCaslin will be at the Lorain County Community College Health and Safety Expo at the Spitzer Conference Center on 11/2/16 and collecting ARD pledge cards.

·  Lorain County Beautiful Advisory Board Members have stated they will take pledge cards to their local community festivals or other events to obtain ‘pledges’ for America Recycles Day.

Fall Community Event: November 14, 2016; 4:30pm – 7:00pm

·  Families and members of the community are welcome to participate in a fall themed event that focuses on recycling and composting education to help our environment! There will be fun crafts and hands-on sessions.
