WHEREAS, Pastor Terry Turner organized and planted the Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church in 1991 with five families as a core group in a shopping center located at LaPrada and John West in Dallas; and

WHEREAS, on the first Sunday of worship, 21 believers accepted the challenge of establishing this church and today, Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church has grown to over 2,100 members; and

WHEREAS, in August 1992, the congregation moved to 2232 Franklin Drive in Mesquite and in December 2007 dedicated its present church worship center; and

WHEREAS, Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church has been a friend to the City of Mesquite and the Mesquite Independent School District; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Turner has led Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church in many outreach ministries such as the evangelism ministry, church planting, nursing home ministry, homeless ministry, prison ministry, world missions, local outreach ministries, sports and the church food pantry; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Turner leads Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church in its core values – Bible-centered preaching and teaching, Godly servant leadership, evangelism and outreach, and commitment to the community.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, John Monaco, Mayor of the City of Mesquite, do hereby proclaim Sunday,
July 10, 2011, as:

“MESQUITE FRIENDSHIP BAPTIST CHURCH DAY”

in the City of Mesquite and extend my sincere appreciation to Pastor Terry Turner and the Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church for being a positive example to our community.
