TAMKALIKS SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
(Taz Conner and Terry Crenshaw Memorial Scholarship)
Two $500 scholarships will be awarded by the Tamkaliks Celebration committee. One of these will be awarded to a local student and one will go to a Native American. One of the purposes of our event is to promote cultural understanding. We hope that these scholarships will help further our cause.
Qualification for Native American applicants:
*Intention to attend an institution of post secondary education, full time, for the fall term of 2016
*Native American descent
*Complete application procedures and return to Melanie Crenshaw, 701 West First Street
Wallowa, OR 97885 by June 30, 2016.
Qualification for Wallowa County applicants:
*Intention to attend an institution of post secondary education, full time, for the fall term of 2016
*A High School Graduate of the year 2016
*Complete application procedures and return to Melanie Crenshaw, 701 West First Street
Wallowa, OR 97885 by April 22, 2016.
Selection will be based on the completed application and will be at the discretion of the Scholarship Selection Committee.
All applicants must include the following:
*Two letters of recommendation
*Personal resume of not more that 300 words, prepared by the applicant-including:
*High School or College GPA, SAT scores or other similar information
*Voluntary community activities, leadership activities, etc.
*Employment history
*Education opportunities beyond High School
*Transcript of all academic work in high school or post high school
*Typewritten answers to the following questions (answers should be no more than 50 words each)
Questions for Native American candidates:
1. In what ways do you benefit from participation in Native American cultural events?
2. What are the strengths and weaknesses of the educational program for Native Americans in your area?
3. If you are selected for the scholarship, how will it benefit your community?
Questions for the Wallowa County candidates:
1. What does it mean to you to be living in the traditional homeland of Chief Joseph?
2. What benefits do you see in preserving the cultures of the various ethnic groups that make up America?
3. If you are selected for this scholarship, how will it benefit your community?
There will be two additional $500 scholarships this year from Duane Heglie and the Nez Perce Trail Foundation. These will be awarded to Native American applicants using the same criteria listed above.
