The Peninsula Shanghai INVITES local BICYCLE CLUB MEMBERS, LEISURE CYCLISTS AND FAMILIES TO JOIN

THE 2014 Tour de Bund Charity Cycle Ride

The Peninsula Shanghai will host the fourth annual Tour de Bund Charty Cycle Ride on 20 September 2014. This popular family event in the heart of Shanghai aims to promote the benefits of fitness and healthy living, increase awareness of pollution-free travel and raise money for the Raleigh China charity.

Each year, the Tour de Bund Charity Family Cycle Ride brings together club cyclists, leisure riders and hotel guests to share a picturesque cycle journey along the Shanghai riverside. In its last three years, the Tour de Bund raised more than RMB 100,000 for charity, and featured more than 1,000 participants. In 2014, the Tour is aiming even higher and will gather local and international club cyclists, company teams, leisure riders and families with the target of raising more than RMB 300,000 for charitable causes. After the success of the 2011, 2012 and 2013 events, major local and international media partners have been secured, which will increase the exposure before, during and after the Tour de Bund.

The former professional cyclist Cui Yinhao will join the Charity Family Cycle Ride for the second time. Born in Shanghai, Cui’s cycling career saw him represent China on several occasions, achieving podium finishes in the National Road and National Track Cycling Championships. After retiring, Cui has also participated as an amateur in several races, winning the 2012 and 2013 LOOK-SHIMANO race, and held Yellow/Green Jersey for 2012 Shanghai Bicycle League.

The starting point of the 2014 Tour de Bund will be the iconic Nanpu Bridge. The professional and club cyclists will be the first to commence their 50 km Tour, followed by leisure riders and media, who will undertake a 30 km trip. All participants will cycle along the waterfront in Pudong before crossing the Huangpu River and arriving at the refreshment point at around 10:00 am. The Tour will continue after a 20-minute rest, with riders following a path along the Bund to the finishing point at The Peninsula Shanghai.

The after-race lunchtime party at The Peninsula Shanghai will enable family members, sponsors, spectators and partners who did not participate in the cycle ride to experience the ‘peloton’ spirit of the Tour de Bund. After refreshments at the terrace of Palace Suite, the official Tour de Bund awards presentation will begin at 12:00 noon, followed by a lucky prize draw.

2014 Tour de Bund Charity Cycle Ride at The Peninsula Shanghai – 2

“The Tour de Bund Charity Cycle Ride is a hugely enjoyable event for hotel guests, city residents and visitors to Shanghai. Both club and leisure cyclists enjoy a Saturday morning ride along the beautiful Huangpu riverside to highlight the importance of healthy living and pedal-power travel. At the same time, the Tour participants raise funds to support local charities, and with significant media exposure this year.

We are excited about hosting the biggest Tour de Bund in its three-year history,” said Mr. Joseph W.Y. Chong, General Manager and Managing Director of The Peninsula Shanghai Complex.
