The Diamond Edge Figure Skating Club Competition Committee and Board of Directors welcome all skaters to the sixth annual “Lakes Area Classic” 2014 Basic Skills Competition.

The “Lakes Area Classic” proudly participates in the Central Minnesota Basic Skills Competition Series which is sponsored equally by the St. Cloud Figure Skating Club, Diamond Edge Figure Skating Club, Fergus Falls Skating Club and the Alexandria Figure Skating Club. This is a United States Figure Skating approved Basic Skills Series Competition.

Basic skills competitions are designed to promote a positive competition experience at the grassroots level and are to provide an enjoyable, less intimidating introductory competitive experience for the beginning skater and develop their skills in a fun environment. In addition to receiving placement awards at the individual competitions, season end awards are presented to recognize skaters’ achievements in the CMBSC Series. A traveling trophy will also be awarded to the skating club with the most skaters participating in the Series; in 2013 the traveling trophy was presented to the Fergus Falls Skating Club.

This is an added skating incentive for your skaters, but your skaters may also compete in any or all of these competitions and not be required to be a part of the series. They may compete as they have in the past. Points will be kept only for those skaters signing up to be a part of the series as indicated on any of the registration forms.

General Information

²  Opening Ceremonies: The day’s events will begin with the playing of our National Anthem

Please stand, remove hats and face the flag.

²  Competition Etiquette: Only participating skaters and coaches are allowed in the immediate gate area to the ice prior to each event. Spectators are requested to sit in the stands to observe the competition. Please be polite and show consideration to the skaters competing.

²  Practice Ice: Practice ice will run from 7:00 a.m. to 8:40 a.m. If you did not pre-purchase practice ice and would still like to do so, check at the registration table for availability. Cost is $8.00 per 20 minutes.

²  Schedule: After the presentation of the National Anthem; the day’s events will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. The schedule is estimated, but should run close to the printed time line. Each skater should check in with the ice monitor 10-minutes prior to your event so we can keep the competition running on time.

²  Warm-Ups: Each level will have a 4-minute warm-up time. Some groups will share that time.

²  Music: Please turn in your music at the registration desk with the skater’s name on it. Please have a back-up CD available if one is needed. Don’t forget to pick up your music after the competition. Music will not be mailed back.

²  Complimentary Bags & Programs: Each skater will receive a complimentary bag and program when they register.

²  Flowers & Merchandise: Fresh flowers and competition t-shirts will be available for sale at the vendor table located in the Cardinal Arena.

²  Pictures & Awards: Awards will be given to all skaters. Please be at the award stand after your event for award presentations and pictures in the warming room of the Cardinal Arena.

²  Special Recognition: A special thank you to Photographer Angela Peters, the Willmar Lakes Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Willmar Civic Center for their support of our event. We would also like to thank our Lakes Area Classic Competition co-chairs Julie Danzeisen, Dawn Bergh, Lisa Groff, Sue Kidrowski and Beth Fischer, our Lead Accountant Kareen Hayden, and the many volunteers who helped to make today’s competition a success! We couldn’t have done this without your help and support!! Thank you!!

The purpose of the “Lakes Area Classic” and the Central Minnesota Basic Skills Competition Series is to promote a fun, introductory, competitive experience for the beginning skater. The competition is open to all beginner skaters who are registered members in a U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills Program and/or are current full members of U.S. Figure Skating.
