Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Pre-College Programs (PCP) is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and student-oriented candidate to teach in its summer residential program. The PCP Faculty Fellow-in-Residence will support the implementation of the 21st Century Entrepreneurship Living Learning Community (LLC), an educational experience designed to take student learning beyond the classroom walls. The successful candidate must be able to provide a rich curriculum to high school students interested in pursuing business management and entrepreneurship. Specific focus will be placed on programming designed to help students develop leadership skills, mindset and relationships necessary to create, develop, and manage a social/corporate venture.

The candidate must be willing and able to reside on the University of Maryland campus for the duration of the summer residential program. Specific responsibilities will include: teaching a daily class in an area of expertise, overseeing the implementation of activities designed to foster an effective living/learning environment, establishing a project for students to complete, meeting weekly with the instructional staff to provide curriculum guidance, and engaging in professional development activities that incorporates the concepts covered in training. In housing matters, the Faculty Fellow-in-Residence is responsible for creating and maintaining a clean, safe, positive, and inclusive community environment that encourages students to develop their full potential. Additional duties include: serving as a liaison between the administrative staff and the residential staff; coordinating the disciplinary process by screening concerns and referring to the appropriate counselor, administrator or to the Student Responsibility Board (SRB); participating in weekly group and individual supervisory meetings with residential staff (T/C’s); participating in weekly departmental staff meetings; attending all orientation and follow-up sessions scheduled; and writing reports as directed on program activities. Training will be held for at least two days during the week of June 6, 2011.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Secondary Education, Philosophy, Business or related field, demonstrated leadership in their field, and at least five years of teaching experience.

Preferences:

PhD degree in related fields, strongly preferred. Previous Faculty-in-residence and boarding school experience a plus.
