We still need a volunteer for our Junior Achievement Program. The scripted lessons are provided so you do not need to spend time writing any of the lessons. Students also brought home a notice about the Junior Achievement Program. Junior Achievement brings business volunteers, community members and parents into the classroom with age-appropriate curriculum for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. The materials teach financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship by using hands-on experiences to help young people understand the economics of life. Junior Achievement brings the real world to students, opening their minds to their potential. Please return the form to me if you are interested in volunteering.

Class Updates

During our enrichment rotation, students stayed with me. We re-conducted the experiment to see how a coat will affect the melting of a snowman. Students used frozen water bottles and a glove as a pretend coat. This experiment reviewed the concept of an insulator since the glove acted as an insulator and kept the frozen water bottle cold.

In Writing, students continued writing their rough draft for the introduction of their issue paper.

In Reading, we determined the main idea and theme of "White Wave". Students discussed the costs and benefits of having someone help them.

In Math, students had to find missing numbers that completed problems that involved multiplication and addition. The homework tonight is very similar to the activity we did in class. These activities will help students be able to multiply and divide fluently within 100.

In Writing, students finished up their research and began writing their introduction paragraph. In their introduction paragraph students need to have a hook, identify their issue and discuss both sides of their issue.

In Reading, we read a Junior Great Books Chinese Folktale called "White Wave". Students identified the sequence of events and how the character responded to the event.

In Math, students used multiplication, division, addition and subtraction to identify pairs of numbers that matched descriptions. For example, a possible description would be, "the pair has a difference of 6 and a quotient of 2". Students had to identify that 12 and 6 would match the description.
