International Funders for Indigenous Peoples

1. Do you think IFIP’s mission statement reflects the primary activities IFIP should be engaged in? If not, why?

Yes, IFIP does and more, which is important because there is a great need to support Indigenous Poeples as the most disadvantage people around the world

2. Who are IFIP’s primary audiences for its work (no more than three):

All funders and donors interested in funding Indigenous Peoples?
Individuals who make gifts exceeding $10,000 annually who may or may not be familiar IPs

3. Should IFIP be focused on Indigenous Peoples in every region globally or should it prioritize? If so, where are the priorities?

I think that the priorities should be Latin America because hey are the most opressed the nearest in the continent.

4. Should IFIP focus primarily on philanthropic organizations and donors in the U.S.? If no, where else?

Yes, shoul be focusing primarily in philanthropy but also making linkage and contact amongst I P funders, Indigenous organizations and communities

5. Should IFIP measure its success by (most important – no more than five):

Increasing IFIP membership?
Increasing number of donors and philanthropic organizations explicitly funding Indigenous Peoples?
Increasing total funding of donors and philanthropic organizations in support Indigenous Peoples locally?
Increasing exposure to funders about opportunities with Indigenous Peoples?
Increasing knowledge of funding organizations to identify potential grantees and make grants to Indigenous Peoples?
Other (please specify) - Improve the capacity of Board member by information and education about what are the issues that I P are facing.

yes

2. Who are IFIP’s primary audiences for its work (no more than three):

All funders and donors interested in funding Indigenous Peoples?
All funders and donors working on issues highly relevant to Indigenous Peoples?
Indigenous-led organizations

3. Should IFIP be focused on Indigenous Peoples in every region globally or should it prioritize? If so, where are the priorities?

IFIP should be open to every region but take its priorities from its membership.

4. Should IFIP focus primarily on philanthropic organizations and donors in the U.S.? If no, where else?

No - we should include donors in other countries, especially Europe

5. Should IFIP measure its success by (most important – no more than five):

Testimonies and stories from donors & indigenous peoples documenting how IFIP contributed to their success especially among IFIP members and IFIP conference participants
Improving quality of funding relationships between philanthropic organizations and donors and Indigenous Peoples (use of 4 Rs - Reciprocity, Respect, Responsibility and Relationships)?
Increasing exposure to funders about opportunities with Indigenous Peoples?
Other (please specify) - the number and quality of spaces for indigenous peoples and funders to interact and build trust

yes

some global coverage is good the Americas should be a priority

4. Should IFIP focus primarily on philanthropic organizations and donors in the U.S.? If no, where else?

yes, that is IFIPs strength; but as IFIPs capacity, strength and networking grow, IFIP should take advantage of that to draw in donors from other parts of the world

I would be strategic in focus from year to year

IFIP should focus on global philanthropy -- Europe, South America, Canada, Australia, Asia, New Zealand, and Central America.

yes, but need to discuss the target audience more

Board and staff leadership of small and family foundations with expressed interest in IPs
Individuals who make gifts exceeding $10,000 annually who may or may not be familiar IPs
Indigenous-led organizations

3. Should IFIP be focused on Indigenous Peoples in every region globally or should it prioritize? If so, where are the priorities?

Should probably focus on a few regions where there is the greatest chance of effecting measureable change, but expanding around global themes such as climate change; food security; land tenure

4. Should IFIP focus primarily on philanthropic organizations and donors in the U.S.? If no, where else?

Focus on the US, perhaps exploring Europe

5. Should IFIP measure its success by (most important – no more than five):

Testimonies and stories from donors & indigenous peoples documenting how IFIP contributed to their success especially among IFIP members and IFIP conference participants
Increasing IFIP membership?
Increasing the number and size of grants being provided to Indigenous Peoples by IFIP members?
Improving data gathering efforts and tracking of funding for Indigenous Peoples?
Demonstrating how efficiently IFIP is managed and the effectiveness and responsibility of its governance.
Other (please specify) - This is a mix of outputs and outcomes. I have checked the former as they are the easiest to assess. The others are more difficult to measure impact and causality, though important.

Not yet, it is very focused on North America both in terms of donors and indigenous people

Governments and multi-lateral organizations operating in geographic areas with significant Indigenous populations
Advocacy groups focused on advancing the rights of Indigenous Peoples?

Globally, but should build the strategy gradually

4. Should IFIP focus primarily on philanthropic organizations and donors in the U.S.? If no, where else?

Not only in the US. All over the world.

All funders and donors working on issues highly relevant to Indigenous Peoples?
Professionals working in large and mid-size foundations with an interest in IPs
Board and staff leadership of small and family foundations with expressed interest in IPs

3. Should IFIP be focused on Indigenous Peoples in every region globally or should it prioritize? If so, where are the priorities?

Build on alternate year annual conference in different parts of the world with more follow on support contemplated to help a regional conference bring to life more IFIP networking and related activities.

4. Should IFIP focus primarily on philanthropic organizations and donors in the U.S.? If no, where else?

US focus, invest in building European participation and then foundations from emerging market / BRIC countries (eg Brazil, Mexico, China, India)
