CHRISM MASS DETAILS: On Wednesday 12th April we will travel to the Cathedral in Liverpool for the Chrism Mass, cost will be £10.00. If you have never been to the Chrism Mass, I encourage you to go. It is a splendid occasion and His Grace gives a very special address to his Priests and to the congregation. I also encourage families to come with us and pray together as a family in the Great Holy Week and also to hear the splendor of the choir and the famous Cathedral organ, especially in this Jubilee Year. Please complete the list in the parish office to book a place on the coach and pay your fees at the time of booking. Under 16s travel free.

EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (A)

26TH FEBRUARY 2017

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘No one can be the slave of two masters: he will either hate the first and love the second, or treat the first with respect and the second with scorn. You cannot be the slave both of God and of money.

‘That is why I am telling you not to worry about your life and what you are to eat, nor about your body and how you are to clothe it. Surely life means more than food, and the body more than clothing! Look at the birds in the sky. They do not sow or reap or gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are we not worth much more than they are? Can any of you, for all his worrying, add one single cubit to his span of life? And why worry about clothing? Think of the flowers growing in the fields; they never have to work or spin; yet I assure you that not even Solomon in all his regalia was robed like one of these. Now if that is how God clothes the grass in the field which is there today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, will he not much more look after you, you men of little faith? So do not worry; do not say, “What are we to eat? What are we to drink? How are we to be clothed?” It is the pagans who set their hearts on all these things. Your heavenly Father knows you need them all. Set your hearts on his kingdom first, and on his righteousness, and all these other things will be given you as well. So do not worry about tomorrow: tomorrow will take care of itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.’

OFFERTORY COLLECTION last week was £786 of which £370 was Gift Aided. Thank you very much for your generosity. Next weekend we have the very important parish collection for the Restoration Fund. The first collection for CAFOD raised £152. Thank you for all the donations to the Restoration Fund.

UPDATE ON REPAIR WORKS: The replacement ceiling boards and wall rails arrived on Thursday and were treated with fungicide. On Friday they had a first coat of paint. Installation will take place on Tuesday 28th and work will stop for midday Mass (because the works are noisy). We then need to wait for the metal bracketing plates for the corroded horizontal beam to be manufactured and installed, to re-plug the beam firmly into the wall.

GIFT AID please remember that the Gift Aid scheme helps the parish considerably. For every pound you give, on which you have already paid income tax, we can claim an extra 25p. If you pay tax, please pick up the salmon coloured form in the Resource Area and fill it in and pop it through the presbytery door. It will not cost you any more money in donations but will be a great help to the parish. If you go to another church and put your envelope in the collection, that parish will return it to us. Thank you.

You can also use St Mary’s envelopes even if you don’t gift aid. Then, if you attend another local church on a particular Sunday, the monies will be returned to us.

Also, please remember St Mary’s Parish in your will. You can always attach a codicil to a will already made, bequeathing the parish a definite sum, valid so long as it has your signature and that of two witnesses.
