Session Descriptions
Camp sessions are designed to be appropriate and safe for each level of team.
Super Puppy campers are encouraged to use an adult dog in the electives, to keep the puppies fresh for their camp sessions. If you have any questions, please contact Melissa or one of the Coaches.

*CAMP* Agility Handling with Coach Megan - Campers will spend one morning with Megan. She will focus on crucial handling skills appropriate for each camper level.

*CAMP* Positions & Impulse Control with Coach Diana - Campers will spend one morning with Diana. She will focus on building value and proofing a variety of positions needed in agility: start-lines, stopped contacts, and the table.

*CAMP* Obstacle Commitment with Coach Mike - Campers will spend one morning with Mike. He will focus on building obstacle focus & teach handlers how to see commitment so they are able to trust their dogs and progress efficiently on an agility course.

*Elective* Mental Toughness with Coach Megan - Megan will guide you through different strategies for developing, remembering, and executing your handling plan on an agility course. *Not suitable for puppies*

*Elective* Reality & Fantasy Lines with Coach Megan - Megan will be teaching handlers about where your dog takes off, lands, and how your dog turns on the ground to give you a more overall picture of your dog’s path on course and how to use that in planning your course strategies. *Not suitable for puppies*

*Elective* Lead Legs in Agility with Coach Megan - Megan will teach handlers what a lead leg is, how a dog determines which lead leg to use, how some obstacles dictate which lead leg to use, and how a handler can predict when lead changes are necessary to increase their understanding of how to handle a dog on the agility course.

*Elective* Engagement with Coach Diana - Diana will teach handlers how to reach a new level of relationship with their dogs. Engagement is about giving the dog the ability to “opt in” for training and to be fully committed to the training. Without engagement, many handlers find themselves fighting with the environment and have dogs that are more interested in sniffing or exploring their environments, rather than training in them.

*Elective* Training Tools & How to Use Them with Coach Diana - Diana will teach handlers what a conditioned emotional response is and why it is important to your training and competing. She will also talk about different training tools, how they work, and how you can use them during your training.

*Elective* Handler’s Choice with Coach Diana - Diana will take a question or training challenge from each handler and work through that challenge with the team, create a training plan, and follow-up plan for that team. Handlers will observe a variety of training challenges and how Diana would go about solving that challenge with each dog.

*Elective* Front Crosses with Coach Mike - Mike will teach handlers how to properly execute one of the oldest handling techniques in the sport of agility; the Front Cross! The front cross is one of the most difficult techniques to execute properly from the dog’s perspective.

*Elective* Backside Sends with Coach Mike - Mike will teach handlers how to appropriately cue a backside jump on time and how to increase distance to your sends. Students will also learn how to add other handling techniques to their backside sends without falling behind or being in the dog’s way.

*Elective* Rear Crosses with Coach Mike - Mike will teach handlers how to execute Rear Crosses in time for the dog to prepare for the turn in a variety of situations on course.

Any dog showing aggression during Camp will not be allowed to continue to participate in Camp exercises. Please do not bring extra family dogs with you to Camp if you cannot also guarantee their good behavior around the rings and on the equipment, even after hours. No refunds will be given if your dog is not allowed to participate.

Private Lessons ~ thestaff is not available for private lessons during camp.

Working More Than One Dog ~ if you plan on working more than one dog in CAMP, you must enter at the lower camp level. Example: you have one Masters dog and one Novice dog, you must enter “Beyond Basics” camp. You may work a different dog in the electives regardless of what dog/level you are working in camp. There are some camp electives that are not suitable for puppies.

Auditing ~ Auditors may observe & ask questions anywhere in Camp/Electives anytime they want.

Non Agility Partner/Support person ~A spouse or partner that does not guide you in your agility career, or teach, train and/or compete in agility and will be with you at camp to hang out or videotape you in your sessions still needs to fill out an auditor form and a Release of Liability but there is no charge for observing. It is possibly to purchase meals and a camp shirt for your partner ahead of time. Please send a note to Melissa to make these arrangements.

Video and Audio Taping ~ you are welcome to videotape your dog’s runs or your friend’s runs during camp exercises. However, you may not video or audio tape entire lectures, workshops, or training sessions. If a video is posted online of you working your dog the sound must be turned off when the instructor is addressing you. No instruction or comments by the instructors may be posted online.

Practicing on Equipment ~30-minutes before the first class of the day starts, during lunch, and 30-minutes after the last class ends, everyone—campers, observers, workers, and staff—are welcome to practice on the equipment with the following stipulations:

●You may not move any equipment. The courses will already be set up for the sessions and must be left as they were found

●During the evening and/or lunch, instructors may occasionally close a ring to work their dogs. You are welcome to observe, but please respect their time with their dogs.

Cars and Parking

●Respect all speed limit and parking signs

●5MPH is the speed limit everywhere on Fun Fur Paws Property

Crating

●Camp will be held indoors. To save space on the floor, we ask that you crate your dog outside of the ring in the aisle way or stalls, or surrounding areas of the arena floor. You may also crate out of your car. Please bring appropriate shade gear.

Picking Up After Your Dog~ Please, please, clean up your poop and any you happen to see, even if it is not your own! Good campers do not care, they pick up any and all poop so that we all look good and get to come back again next year! There are garbage cans and posts with clean-up bags located around the facility for your convenience.

Dogs off Leash

●In and around the training areas, dogs must be on leash for their safety and the safety of others when not working.

●Not all dogs like to be bothered and they’ll fight with strange dogs that approach them. As the owner of an off-leash dog, YOU are responsible for any conflict that arises.

●Dogs with aggression issues must not be allowed off leash anywhere on the grounds.

●There are designated off-leash areas at Fun Fur Paws. If you are not in one of these areas or working in a training area, your dog must be on leash.

Bitches in Season ~ Dogs in season are allowed to work at camp but must wear britches at all times during the camp working session.

Cancellation Notice ~ this year you have an option of paying a $120 deposit to hold your spot in camp. Your registration will not be considered complete until we receive the printed registration form and Release of Liability with your deposit. Full balance is due on or before June 1, 2017. Canceling 60 to 30 days prior to camp is a $150 cancellation charge. Less than 30 days prior to camp the cancellation fees are 1/2 the registration.Canceling one week or less prior to camp forfeits camp fees unless your spot can be filled. We will make every effort to maintain a waitlist so that last minute cancellations are filled but we make no promises to that end.
