1.  About the SNH Golf League

The SNH Golf League is comprised of men and women of all golfing abilities. Anyone who is of High School age or older is welcome to join the league. The only requirement is that you have some golfing experience. Anyone under the age of 21 must be paired up with someone who is 21 or older.

The league is composed of two flights, an “A” flight and a “B” flight.

The “A” flight consists of golfers with a handicap no greater than 12 for nine holes. Men play from the blue tees and women from the white. Golfers whose handicap is higher than 12 and wish to play in the “A” flight as a regular or sub will have their handicap limited to 12.

The “B” flight consists of golfers with an unlimited handicap. Men play from the blue tees and women play from the white tees.

The registration fee is set by the committee each year and covers the cost the hosting of the website, the End of Season outing, the prizes for the outing and the awards for flight champions, runner-ups (2nd, 3rd, 4th). The registration fee does not include weekly green fees and is not refundable. Substitutes are required to pay a $5.00 administration fee; and are responsible for their weekly golf fees and the tournament fee, if they choose to attend.

The term of play is a straight 16 weeks. Generally there is no play the week of July 4th. Play will begin at the beginning of May and run through the end of August. The End of Season outing is usually held the last week in September. This year because there are no playoffs we are looking at any Monday in September. We are looking to settle up on the course within the first couple weeks of May so you can make the appropriate adjustments to you schedule.

1.1  Where the League Plays

The league plays its matches at the Amherst Country Club located on Rt. 122 in Amherst. The golf course has the following requirements that you need to be aware of:

Soft spikes only. Metal spikes are not permitted on the course. Check with the pro shop if you’re not sure if your spikes are permitted on the course.

An absentee policy that charges the league greens fees for players not showing up for their tee time or not finding a substitute. (League dues have been used to cover this cost in the past and this greatly affects the monies used for the End of Season tournament and prizes.

3  Time to play nine holes should not exceed 2 ¼ hours – the starters have the right to make a team skip a hole to advance slower groups.

1.2  When the League Plays

League matches are played on Tuesday and Thursday nights; play begins around 4:00 give or take a tee time depending on the number of teams. The league offers one “A” and three “B” flights. The day and times of each flight is as follows:

Tuesday / B / ~3:52 / Amherst CC
Thursday / B / ~3:52 / Amherst CC
Thursday / A / ~4:40* / Amherst CC

·  *The start time of the Thursday A flight is typically around 4:40PM, or immediately following the Thursday B flight.

2.  League Guidelines and Policies

This section provides information on the following:

-  Tee Times

-  Attendance

-  Slow Play

-  Handicaps

-  Women’s Strokes

-  Weather Conditions

2.1  Tee Times

The Tuesday and Thursday B flights will start around 4:00 with tee times spaced 8 minutes apart. The A league on Thursday will follow the B League and the start time varies depending on the number of tee times taken by the B League. Tee times will not go past 5:40. The schedule of assigned tee times can be found on the website at: http://www.snhgl.com/ListSchedule.asp. For individual tee times for the season go to: http://www.snhgl.com/ViewMySchedule.asp.

The following rules apply to tee times and must be followed to insure play begins on time:

-  Be at the tee and ready to go before your assigned tee time. You should be at the tee 10 minutes prior to your assigned tee time.

-  If you wish and all players agree, your group may tee off early; but no earlier than 12:00 on the scheduled day of your match and that has to be coordinated by the teams with the course. You cannot play your match on any other day other than the assigned date of the match.

-  If you need to, you may switch your assigned tee time with another foursome, providing everyone in the foursome agrees. You are encouraged to do this if your entire foursome is not ready on the first tee and rather than hold everyone up, allow the group scheduled after you to tee off if they are ready to go.

-  The last group must tee off by the final tee time allowed. This is imperative because in general there are other leagues that follow ours. We do not want to be responsible for their league starting late.

You must tee off on time regardless of whether or not all parties are present. If the player(s) is not present they can join in at the next hole. DO NOT delay the start of your match even if you see the missing player driving into the parking lot. Each group must start on time to insure that everyone can complete their round before it gets dark.

2.2  Attendance

2.2.1  Regular Season Attendance

Only players who can make a commitment to playing on a weekly basis should sign up as regular members. It’s understandable that work, travel, vacation or short term sickness will require a sub at times. Prolonged absentee situations without finding a sub must be brought to the attention of the Committee. Failure of this rule may result in the removal of a full-time member and the team that the player was on will be ineligible for playoff participation.

If you show up late for a match and have not sent out a sub-mail note then you will assessed a -.5 points per hole that you miss. You cannot go back and play missed holes after you complete the 9th or 18th hole.

2.2.2  Tournament Attendance

If you sign up to play in the end of the season tournament, regardless of your status as a full member or a sub, you will be expected to play. In the event you cannot make it after you signup; it is imperative that you contact a committee member or the course (day of tournament) to inform us you will not be participating. The teams are made up of an A, B, C and D player if a player doesn’t show up then it will skew the handicaps and the team may have an unfair advantage or disadvantage. Bottom line; call someone if you can not make the tournament.

2.2.3  Sub Attendance

Most players will have an occasional situation that prevents them from making their weekly golf match (i.e., vacations, business trips, etc.). When such an occasion arises, you are responsible for finding a sub to take your place. To get credit for requesting a sub use the Sub Mail link http://www.snhgl.com/SubMail.asp in the left nav. The request must be made 24 hours prior to your scheduled tee time.

If you are within the 24 hour time frame you can use the League Mail http://www.snhgl.com/Mail.asp in the left nav to send a note to the league distribution list looking for a sub. NOTE: you will not get credit for putting out a sub note using the League Mail feature. If a sub does not respond or show you will be assessed the penalty for an absent player.

Subs can join the league at anytime during the season. The sub is required to fill out the application prior to the round being played. Once the application is received online then the sub will be added to the league database and sub distribution list. A new sub handicap will be determined per 2.4 below.

To get a list of all the subs, login and go to List SNHGL Players Subs at: http://www.snhgl.com/listplayers.asp

To register a sub during the year go to http://www.snhgl.com/Registration/Player.asp and enter in the information on the form.

All subs must register before they play to be eligible to receive points for the member they are subbing for. When entering scores, if your sub is not present in the list, then they have not registered and you should enter the scores and mark the player absent.

2.2.3.1  Permanent Sub

In the event that a fulltime member has to drop out of the league a permanent sub can be assigned to the fulltime members spot. The permanent sub does NOT take over the membership of the fulltime player. If the permanent sub wants to play in the end of season tournament he/she may but will be required to pay the sub fee for the tournament. Payouts to the permanent sub will be handled by the member that he/she is subbing for.

2.3  Slow Play

Slow play continues to plague each flight during the season. We all need to keep track of our own progress on the course. If you see a gap forming between your group and the group in front of you, pick up the speed of your group.

The league will be very strict on this issue, especially at Amherst. The rangers have been instructed to give one warning about slow play and then they will require you to pick up your golf ball and move to the next open tee box in front of your group. If your group has to be escorted ahead twice your group will be moved to the last tee time for that night for the remainder of the season.
