What’s it all about?
·  From high school you go to either College, University, Apprenticeship or work
·  What skills do you need in order to be successful in all of these areas?
Question: What skills do you need in order to become a marketable global worker / a contributing member of society?
Step One: Sticky Note Brainstorm
·  Future Skills – working in groups of four, each student has some sticky notes to print a future skill on – one sticky note for each skill
·  Students place their sticky notes in the centre of the table
·  Students can send out a ‘spy’ to check out other groups ideas
Step Two: Concept Formation
·  Ask students to group the skills in some order, or organization. Move the sticky notes around
·  Can you give each grouping a title or name?

Pillars
·  Read through the pillars – can be a check list
·  Question: How are the categories from the Conference Board of Canada similar to those your group came up with? How are they different?
·  Introduce the Respect Program pillars
·  We are going to focus on the Respect pillar for the rest of this session – respect is a huge issue / concern world-wide in the business, community and education sectors – why?
·  Global community – immigration – people moving around the world = people with different cultures, races, languages, values, beliefs, traditions etc. now living in the same community
·  We must find a way to live together and work together
·  The number one reason for people getting fired from their work, is an inability to get along with others / Conference Board Handouts

Question: How do you show respect for others?
·  Students make a list of all the things that they do that show respect for others
·  Share lists in small groups
You will all be doing 40 volunteer service hours during your high school years. This is an opportunity for you to learn about the needs of others and attempt to meet those needs. While this opportunity will be of great benefit to those you choose to work with, it is also a great chance for you to try out a work situation to see if that is the direction you wish to move in for your future education and career choice. The key to success in any career choice lies in your respectful behaviour and treatment of others.

Respect is a world-wide concern and desire. Many companies have adopted logos, slogans, advertisements and jingles that reflect this theme.
(Teacher shares something from the list that reflects respect to him/her and explains their choice to the class)
Assignment:
In your groups, create a list of poems, songs, music videos, books, and movies that reflect the theme of respect – it could be respect for the planet, environment, religion, ethnicity, etc.
Each student will choose one of the items that they like the best, to show/play for the class. Explain why you choose this item, why you like it and what it says about respect to you.
Students will receive a completion mark for this assignment. / Music, poems, quotes that the teacher thinks best reflect their definition of respect
