Financial Aid Contact Information

Federal Work-Study recipients can refer to the job listings below, when searching for part-time employment on campus and in the Newark area. Many positions are clerical, some involve research for University faculty, and others are community-based. Before you review the list, please read the information regarding eligibility requirements and placement.

Application and Eligibility Requirements

·  You must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the school year in which you are seeking employment and receive an FWS offer on your Financial Aid Award Letter.

·  Complete the FWS Job Application, and submit it to the Office of Financial Aid (Blumenthal Hall, third floor). We will assign eligible students based on their preferences and space availability in their preferred department(s).

·  To qualify for FWS, you must be enrolled in a degree program at Rutgers University during the school year, maintain satisfactory academic progress for Federal student aid, and have financial need (based on the information on your FAFSA).

·  Non FWS-eligible students may contact the Career Development Center (Hill Hall, 973-353-5311) for other part-time listings. International students should consult with an International Student Services Advisor before seeking campus employment.

Placement

·  Students who are assigned an FWS position will be instructed (via e-mail) to view their online Employment Authorization Form.

·  Contact the supervisor named on the EAF to arrange an interview.

·  If you agree to the job duties and work hours, then accept the online EAF. (If you decline the assignment, you will receive further instructions.)

·  You must complete the necessary payroll forms (W-4 and I-9) with your department. Off-campus community service students will complete these forms with OFA.

Summer Employment

A limited number of FWS positions may be available during the Summer preceding the academic year, pending FWS funding to the University. Those interested in employment must complete the Summer Job Application. OFA will provide the application and instructions in April or May.

If you do not enroll in summer courses, be advised:

·  You must be returning to Rutgers for the upcoming Fall semester.

·  Summer earnings will be subtracted from your academic year FWS award, thus limiting the hours you may work during the Fall and Spring semesters. Because we may not be able to increase your award (if remaining FWS funds are not available), we recommend that you monitor your earnings carefully.

Useful Tips

·  Complete the FAFSA early. Continuing students that file by Rutgers’ priority filing date (March 15th preceding the academic year) are given first consideration; late filers may appeal for FWS only if funds remain available.

·  List three departments on the FWS job application, in case your first choice is not available.

·  Print the Job Application onto one sheet of paper. You computer’s font and/or margin settings may cause part of the text to print onto a second page, so make the necessary adjustments.

·  Do not attach resumes or other documents to the Job Application; they will be discarded. (Your prospective employer may request a resume at your interview.)

·  Bring identification on or before your first day of work. Your employer must verify your identity (e.g., a photo driver’s license, permanent resident card or passport) and your eligibility to work in the United States (Social Security Card).
