REQUEST FOR FUNDING

The Bill Leslie Scholarship Fund was established by the Leslie family in memory of Bill who was the past Referee-in-Chief for the Minnkota District of USA Hockey. Bill spent countless hours creating ways to help Minnesota officials improve their skills including the creation of the MHOA Camp. This camp was the starting point for many officials who continue to have great success as a referee which includes working higher level games for their local officials association, moving on to working collegiate and international competition along with professional opportunities. We are very grateful to the Leslie family for creating this endowment and to all of the referee associations across Minnesota who continue to increase the fund through contributions.

A request for funding from the Leslie Fund may be made by any official to help reimburse that official for expenses incurred for fees, travel or miscellaneous expenses while attending a camp or training event designed to improve their skills. The goal of this fund is to help an official with a financial burden while pursuing his/her desire to improve their officiating skills. Working tournaments are considered a reward for your skills and cost for travel or other expenses associated with the tournament will not be considered by the review committee for any type of reimbursement.

The funding committee will review and determine if the request is within the spirit of the fund as established by the Leslie family.

This following format will be used by any official who is requesting a funding grant from the Bill Leslie Scholarship Fund.

Background: A brief history of refereeing experience will be given by the

applicant, which will include but not be limited to the following

information.

  1. # of years/level as a certified USA Hockey Official
  2. leagues and levels you have officiated
  3. past achievements and future goals
  4. other

Need: An explanation of what achievement you have set and why you wish to accomplish this goal.

Funding Request: Provide the requested amount of funding and explain how it will be used.
