School Specific Scholarships

Most schools offer a variety of scholarships and financial aid. Please check the websites of the schools you are interested in for more opportunities. The ones posted below have specifically sent a notice to the KHS College Room announcing the scholarship. To get these scholarships you must apply to and attend the school sponsoring the scholarship.

University of Arkansas – Arkansas Alumni Association Scholarship
Amount / $10,000 ($2,500 per year renewable for 4 years)
Deadline / Priority deadline: 12/01/2012; Final deadline: 02/01/2013
Requirements / Admission application + scholarship application which includes biographical information, personal statement (1-2 pages), leadership/service statement (1 page), resume (2 pages), official transcript and senior schedule, 2 recommendations (1 teacher and 1 personal)
Eligibility / Incoming freshman admitted as degree-seeking student to University of Arkansas, Fayetteville; 3.0 high school GPA; ACT composite of 20 (930 SAT).
Notes / Applicants do not need to be related to a UA graduate to apply.

University of Arkansas – Non-Resident Tuition Scholarship Award
Amount / Covers the majority (80-90%) difference between out-of-state and in-state tuition.

Requirements / Must apply for UA admission but are not required to submit a separate scholarship application.
Eligibility / Award is automatically granted to high-achieving students from Texas with 90% discount on the non-resident portion of tuition if you have a 3.6 GPA and a 26 ACT/1170 SAT OR 80% discount for students with a 3.25-3.59 GPA and a 24 ACT/1090 SAT

Baylor University – Carr P. Collins Scholarship
Amount / Minimum $4,750 freshman year (renewable for 3 additional years)
Deadline / 01/31/2013
Requirements / Application plus a resume of your honors, awards, achievements and extracurricular activities; handwritten essay (max. 500 words) illustrating your concept of leadership and how your community service experiences have impacted your life; specific nomination for the Carr P. Collins Scholars Program from a teacher or principal that includes a brief explanation of why you deserve the scholarship.
Eligibility / High school senior unconditionally admitted to Baylor who demonstrates leadership through service. Be in the top 25% of their graduating class. Minimum SAT score of 1250 or 28 on ACT. Have completed a balanced college prep program including history, science and a foreign language. Be a Texas resident.

Boston University – Trustee Scholarship
Amount / 4-year, full tuition plus orientation and undergraduate student fees (20)

Requirements / Nomination form completed by school counselor/principal, max. 600 word essay (choose from 3 topics listed on the website), complete application for admission to BU (also available on the website), SAT/ACT scores
Eligibility / High school seniors planning to attend BU in the Fall of 2013. Those considered for the Trustee Scholarship rank in the top of their class and demonstrate exceptional records of service and activity in their schools and communities.

Davidson College – John Montgomery Belk Scholarship
Amount / Annually renewable scholarship equivalent to the college’s comprehensive fees (valued in 2012-2013 at $52,155) + two special study stipends (up to $3,000 per stipend). (8)
Deadline / 11/09/2012 for nomination materials
Requirements / Online nomination materials (must be nominated by high school counselor, principal or vice-principal), high school transcript, letter of recommendation. Student must complete all Davidson College admission materials by 12/03/2012.
Eligibility / A candidate's record and recommendations must demonstrate purposeful engagement in the classroom, with student and civic organizations, on the athletic field or in the arts. While academic achievement is paramount, Belk Scholars also exhibit intellectual curiosity and a commitment to both their local and global communities.

University of Dayton – Leadership in Service Scholarship
Amount / $10,000 ($2,500 per year for 4 years)
Deadline / 02/15/2013 for nomination form and student transcript from counselor
Requirements / University of Dayton admission application. Recommendation form and high school transcripts submitted by high school counselor.
Eligibility / Student must apply and be accepted to the University of Dayton. Early action date is 12/15/2012; regular decision date is 03/01/2013.

Hendrix College – Hays Memorial Scholarship
Amount / 4 – Unspecified amount that provides funds for tuition, room, board and mandatory fees for 4 years.
Deadline / 11/01/2012 (deadline for nomination); 11/15/2012 (application deadline); 02/01/2013 (scholarship application deadline)
Requirements / Students must be nominated by their counselor using the online nomination form no later than November 1st, 2012 (www.hendrix.edu/HaysNomination). Students must then complete the college admission online application by Hendrix’s November 15th Early Action 1 deadline.
Eligibility / High school senior with at least a 3.6 GPA in high school college preparatory classes and score a minimum ACT “super score” composite of 32 or a minimum SAT Critical Reading and Math combined “super score” of 1410.
Notes / Finalists must also participate in an on-campus competition on March 2, 2013.

University of Houston – Bauer Excellence Scholarship
Amount / $10,000 per academic year (renewable)

Requirements / No separate application is required. Qualified students who apply to UH-Main Campus and select “Business” as their major of choice via www.applytexas.org will be considered for the BES if they are admitted into the C.T. Bauer College of Business
Eligibility / Incoming 2013 freshmen who apply and are admitted into UH and the C.T. Bauer College of Business; must have a Critical Reading + Math SAT score of 1400 or above or 32 ACT Composite score; be ranked in the top 15% of their high school class.

University of Houston – Terry Foundation Scholarship
Amount / Cost of academic year at U of H including tuition, fees, books, on-campus room and board and misc. expenses. 22 scholarships available.
Deadline / 01/31/2013 postmarked or 02/01/2013 online
Requirements / Apply and be accepted to the University of Houston. Terry application plus high school transcript, 2 letters of recommendation (one must be written by one of your core subject teachers), file a FAFSA (between January 1st and February 28th), 2 essays.
Eligibility / Applicants should demonstrate the following: financial need; a record of leadership in school and community; strong academic abilities (as evidenced by grades and SAT scores); graduation from a Texas high school; admission for fall 2013 to U of H as a full-time entering freshman for 2013-2014 and will be residing on campus.

Ithaca College – Roy H. Park School of Communications
Park Scholar Awards
Amount / Covers full cost of attendance for 4 years (approx. $51,000); includes tuition, room and board and stipends for living expenses, books and a one-time computer purchase of $2,500.
Deadline / 01/02/2013 for Ithaca College admission application; 01/15/2013 for Park Scholar Award application
Requirements / Admission application, Park Scholar Award application, two 300-500 word essays, resume, 3 letters of recommendation and high school transcript.
Eligibility / There are no minimum academic requirements, however, the award is very competitive, and on average, recipients of the Park Scholar Award have an SAT average of 1350

Lamar University – Mirabeau Scholars Program
Amount / Covers full cost of attendance for 4 years; includes tuition, room and board, fees and books.

Requirements / Mirabeau Scholars applicants should submit a letter of interest including a personal statement of academic goals and intended major, along with a current resume and three letters of recommendation, two of which must be from current teachers. Applicants also should include a copy of their Lamar University application for undergraduate admission, documentation of SAT or ACT scores, and a copy of their current high school transcript reflecting class rank.
Eligibility / Minimum SAT score of 1250 (M & CR) or an ACT score of 28 and a record of demonstrated excellence in academics, leadership, service and/or creative endeavors.

University of Nebraska – George Beadle Scholarship and
Ruth Leverton Scholarship
Amount / George Beadle: $12,500 per year (for 4 years); Ruth Leverton: $8,500 per year (for 4 years)

Requirements / Submit U of Nebraska admission materials before the deadline.
Eligibility / Ruth Leverton: minimum SAT score of 1090 or an ACT score of 24 and a B average.

Sam Houston State University – Elliott T. Bowers Scholarship
Amount / $2,800

Requirements / SHSU and Elliott T. Bowers Honors College application, official transcript, 2 letters of recommendation from two of your high school teachers, 500-1000 word essay, resume.
Eligibility / SAT composite score of 1200 or above; ACT composite of at least 27; graduated in the top 10% of your high school class.
Notes / All Honors students admitted to SHSU Elliott T. Bowers Honors College receive this award. It is renewable if the students remain in good standing and earn a 3.25 GPA

St. Edward’s University – President’s Excellence Scholarship & Holy Cross Scholarship
Amount / President’s Excellence: $60,000 (over 4 yrs.); Holy Cross: full tuition in the freshman year and the same amount in subsequent years (10 are chosen)

Requirements / Apply for admission to St. Edward’s. No separate application for President’s Excellence. There is a separate application form for the Holy Cross Scholarship.
Eligibility / President’s Excellence: you are guaranteed this award if you rank in the top 15% of your class and score at least a 1300 on the SAT or 29 on the ACT (not including the writing section). Holy Cross: you must be ranked in the top 10% of your class, score at least a 1250 on the SAT or 28 on ACT (not including writing section), and demonstrate outstanding leadership, service and academic achievement.

Southern Methodist University – Hunt Leadership Scholars
Amount / 25 - Full tuition and fees (less the amount of resident tuition and fees at the leading public school of the student’s state of residency). Also, tuition and transportation to one of SMU’s study-abroad programs.

Requirements / Submit application for admission to SMU, submit an online Hunt Leadership Scholarship application, including essay. Letter of recommendation focusing on your leadership abilities and potential from someone who has worked directly with you in a leadership capacity is also required.
Eligibility / Extraordinary leadership in high school; rank in the top 25% of graduating class; composite SAT 1270 (M & CR) or ACT 28; completion of strong college prep curriculum featuring elements such as AP courses, IB courses and honors classes.

Texas A&M University – Foundation Excellence Award Scholarship
Amount / $2,000-$2,500 per year

Requirements / Complete admission application to A&M through the Apply Texas common application. Complete Essays A, B and C and check the box Foundation Excellence Award found under University Scholarships: Selectable.
Eligibility / Incoming Texas A&M freshmen. Because the Texas A&M Foundation is a private entity, it may take into consideration characteristics of race and ethnicity in addition to the family educational background, financial need, grades and leadership history in the selection process. Some of the scholarships require financial need or a major in a particular field of study, according to the donor’s wishes.

University of Texas - Haraldson Foundation Scholarship
Amount / $4,200 per semester for 8 (or less) consecutive semesters
Deadline / 12/01/2012 must be RECEIVED in the Haraldson office
Requirements / Complete application downloaded from the website. Must also include 3 letters of recommendation with at least one from a Math or English teacher, official high school transcript, one page essay on chosen career and goals, approx. 500 word essay on “How I Will Personally Contribute to Meeting Society’s Future Challenges, financial information.
Eligibility / High school seniors planning to attend the University of Texas. Must have high SAT or ACT scores, are graduating in the top 10% of their graduation class and demonstrate leadership in extra curricular activities, community service, and moral character

UT- Dallas - The Eugene McDermott Scholars Program
Amount / All expenses (4 years)

Requirements / Complete admission application to UT-Dallas as well as application for the scholarship. Must provide 4 recommenders of the following types: counselor; academic; extracurricular activities; personal. Recommendations must be completed and submitted online (website contains more complete instructions on this process).
Eligibility / Students who have the best chance of earning this scholarship will have: 1400 or higher on the two part SAT (verbal and math); 2100 or higher on the three part SAT; 32 or higher on the ACT; a class ranking in the top 5 percent of their graduating class; long records of community volunteerism and leadership in school; broad and eclectic interests in science, literature and the arts; social skills to interact easily with adults as well as peers.

Virginia Military Institute – Institute Scholars Program
