Campbell University Endowed Scholarships

Amount: varies up to full tuition. Must submit a Campbell University admissions application and is an outstanding academic student with 1150 SAT score (or 25 ACT score), 3.5 GPA and ranked in the top 10% of class; no separate application is necessary; Deadline: Application opens in March 2016.

M. Wayne Mangum Scholarship

The scholarship is for $500. The applications must be back in our office by March 1, 2016 along with letters of recommendation and the student statement. Applicants will not be limited to previous or current vocational agriculture and/or home economics students. Students must be in pursuit of a higher education in the fields of agriculture, horticulture, home economics, or related areas such as forestry, ag-mechanics, welding, and childcare. Preference will be given to Future Farmers of America members and Future Homemakers of America members. Applicants must be seniors or past graduates of the Union County Public School System. Application is available in guidance and due to Mrs. Pierce by March 1 at 8am.

VFW – Scout of the Year Award

WHO CAN ENTER: Scouts who are registered, active members of a Boy or Girl Scout Troop, Venturing Crew, or a Sea Scout Ship who have received the Eagle Scout Award, Girl Scout Gold Award, Venture Silver Award or Sea Scout Quartermaster Award, Scouts must be 15 years of age and have demonstrated practical citizenship in school, scouting and the community., Scouts must be enrolled in high school at the time of selection. HOW TO ENTER: Scouts should submit the completed VFW Scouting Scholarship form, resume of high school activities, scouting record, community service record and letters of recommendation to a local VFW Post no later than March 1. HOW THE CONTEST WORKS: Local VFW Posts select one winner from the entries received. Posts then submit their local winner to their respective VFW Department (state) by April 1. Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation

Applicants must be the child of one of the following: Active duty or reserve U.S. Marine; Veteran U.S. Marine who has received an honorable discharge, or was killed while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps; Active duty or reserve U.S. Navy Corpsman who is serving or has served with a U.S. Marine unit; Veteran U.S. Navy Corpsman who has served with a U.S. Marine unit and has received an honorable discharge, or was killed in the U.S. Navy. Additional eligibility requirements: GPA of at least 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale); Family adjusted gross income for the 2013 tax year that does not exceed $93,000. Non-taxable allowances are not included in determining adjusted gross income; Planning to attend an accredited undergraduate college or vocational/technical institution in the upcoming academic year, and pursuing their first associate's degree, bachelor's degree or first technical certificate. The Greater Charlotte Bowling Scholarship Fund

The Greater Charlotte Bowling Scholarship Fund provides scholarship grants to graduating seniors who have attended an accredited high school or recognized home school program that is located within the counties of Mecklenburg, Union, Cabarrus (Excluding the city of Kannapolis) and Stanley south of Highway 73 and including the city of Albemarle. The grant of at least $1500 is for one year and may be applied to tuition and/or books. The applicants must have bowled as a youth sometime prior to submitting application and have held a certified youth membership in USBC, must have maintained amateur standing as determined by USBC, must have GPA of 2.6 or higher. Application due March 1st of each year.

TTEC Innovation Scholarship

The Triangle Technology Executives Council (TTEC) is sponsoring its annual scholarship, the 2016 TTEC Innovation Scholarship, for a student attending and pursuing a degree at a NC non-profit based college, university or technical school in fall 2016. TTEC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the economic development of technology companies in the Triangle through collaboration among leaders in the management community. There will be an annual award of $6,000. The award is to be paid directly to the students’ educational institution to cover their tuition, room and board, and books. NC State Chancellor's Leadership Scholarship

NC State is a community of women and men of diverse ages, national origins, physical abilities, religions, educational interests, racial, ethnic, and class background. Such a diverse population enriches the educational community within the University. Therefore, criteria for selection for the Chancellor's Leadership Scholarship include leadership potential, academic achievement, personal talents, unique work or service experience, financial need, overcoming personal adversity, and the candidate's understanding and appreciation of diversity. Only entering freshmen are eligible to apply for this award.

Recipients for this award must be citizens or lawful permanent residents of the United States, must be admitted into an undergraduate degree program at NC State University, and must present evidence of financial need as well as achievement and promise in both leadership and scholarship. Program for students with demonstrated leadership potential, academic achievement, personal talents, unique work or services experience, financial need and a demonstration of overcoming personal adversity.

A preference will be given to those individuals who will enhance and contribute to NC State’s diversity. Students who apply for admission by October 15 and submit a FAFSA by March 1 are automatically considered. No separate application is required.

Mary and Millard Kiker Scholarship

Applications are now available online. The purpose of the Kiker Scholarship Fund is to offer college scholarships based upon merit, character, and financial need to students who are residents of Anson and Union Counties. The amount of scholarships will be up to $1000 annually for four years. Parents and applicants may complete the application by going to fftcscholarships.communityforce.com. Students must have the applications completed online by March 4. A central committee will select three nominees who meet the criteria and eligibility requirements.

Weddington Optimist Oratorical Contest

The Optimist Oratorical Contest gives students the chance to speak to the world. At the club level, the Weddington Optimists will be awarding cash prizes of $100, $50 and $25 to the top boys and top girls. Then there is a Zone and Regional competition. At the final District contest, the NC West Optimists award a $2,500 scholarship to the top boy and top girl contestants. The 2016 topic is “How My Best Brings Out the Best in Others”. Interested students must prepare and present a 4-5 minute speech on the topic. Participants should email us no later than March 4. The completed form must be submitted to us no later than March 18. The actual contest will be conducted on March 24 at 7pm. The contest will be held in the Weddington / Wesley Chapel area…details to follow.

R. Flake Shaw Scholarship- Farm Bureau Union

To be eligible for this scholarship you must demonstrate satisfactory grades, good character, the intention to pursue a career in agriculture or in an agriculturally-related field, financial need, and leadership potential. The scholarship value varies depending on 4-year or 2-year plans provided the student continues to meet eligibility requirements. Scholarship is available for community college and 4-year college bound students and must be completed as separate applications depending on college plans. County Farm Bureaus may forward ONLY ONE scholarship application from the county to North Carolina Farm Bureau for consideration as a scholarship recipient. Charlotte Metro Area Relocation Council (CMARC) Scholarship


(CMARC) has developed a scholarship program for current high school seniors who have relocated into the Charlotte area sometime between grades 9 (after completing 8th grade) and 12. This $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student who meets the following criteria: 1). is currently a senior, in good standing, at a Charlotte-area high school; 2). relocated more than 50 miles (between grades 9 and 12) and changed schools due to their family's relocation; and 3), currently have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants will be evaluated on academic performance, extracurricular activities, and on their response to an essay addressing challenges associated with relocating to a new area and a new high school. Annual Hays C. Kirby Memorial Scholarship Contest

The Hays C. Kirby Memorial Scholarship Contest is open to students in 9th-12th grade. Students must write a minimum of 1500 word essay about the following topic: “IF NOT FOR THEM . . . WHERE WOULD WE BE?” Develop this topic in any way you choose. Be creative! Essays will be evaluated based on the following criteria: Creativity, Theme Development, Clarity of Ideas, and Mechanics (Grammar, Spelling, Punctuation, Sentence Structure, etc.). Henry S. and Carolyn Adams Scholarship Fund

This scholarship provides undergraduate scholarships to deserving students with financial need who are residents of Union County, NC. It is funded through the Foundation for the Carolinas. One $4,000 scholarship is available for the 2016-17 academic year. Minimum eligibility: Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale), be legal residents of Union County, NC, Be nominated by the principal of their high school, and demonstrate a substantial need for financial assistance. North Carolina State USBC Association, INC. Youth Scholarship

Amount: $2,000.00 Criteria: Student must be a senior in a North Carolina high school prior to the age of 22, be a current member of the NCS USBCA and bowling in a certified USBS North Carolina youth league, have unimpaired amateur standing in bowling, and have expectations of admissions to a recognized institution. Union Power Cooperative

Union Power Cooperative takes pride in recognizing the value of higher education for the future leaders of our communities. Our Board of Directors has appropriated funding for (6) $1,000 college scholarships to be awarded to current seniors of Co-op members. Three scholarships will be awarded to students pursuing a bachelor’s degree at a North Carolina four-year college or university and three scholarships will be awarded to those students continuing their education at a North Carolina community college. The applicants must be: in the current graduating senior class, be a child of Union Power Cooperative’s members or, live in a homes served by Union Power Cooperative.
