Sketch Book Assignments
Ms. S. Roepke Introduction to Art
Objectives: Students will
  • Complete drawings utilizing perspective, size perceptions, values, angles, composition, form and perseverance.
  • Demonstrate an understand of each media that is used by continual practice
  • Will explore using the creative side of their imagination
  • To construct drawings with extensive or limited expectations
Procedure:
  • These items must be set up in a still life formation, NOT JUST MADE UP OUT OF YOUR IMAGINATION.
Special Notes:
  • These components need to be met in order to accomplish an A.
  • No credit will be given if the drawing is done with out the objects appearing in front of you.
  • It is very easy to tell, so please be honest with yourself. (FOLLOW THEM).

21 / Find a clear glass or glass jar. Fill it approximately 2/3 full of clear water. Place a spoon or similar utensil in the water filled glass. Observe and draw the reflections, values (shading), and optical effects. Pencil

8 / What’s in your Bathroom…Two ways that this can be completed? Either sit on a chair outside of your bathroom or with the door open draw what you see, or sit on the toilet (cover down) and draw from this perspective. Look closely at details of letters on tube/bottles/containers, shadows, and reflections on metal/glass surfaces. Colored Pencil

25 / Go to McDonalds, (or any fast food) order and eat or drink three items, then position your recyclables (or uneaten food) together using the elements and principle of design. Consider crumpling or folding the recyclables to make it look unique. 3+ objects. Charcoal

12 / Set up your favorite snack….this snack must have more than one item involved in the wrapper. You may include the wrapper as one of the objects; arrange them based on odd numbers and compositional. Complete Colour

20 / Draw Three Soda Cans…..cans may be crushed, whole, types, semi stomped, twisted, etc. Make them creative. Have two of the items black and white and one colour or visa versa. Think of composition. Any Media

10 / Drawing Material… Make a drawing of all your drawing materials with the exception of your pencil and sketchbook that you are using. Be detail and creative.

** Challenge Sketches ** / Dirty Dishes….Before the dishes are washed and put away, draw them as they would sit on the cupboard. Stacked, placed, in the sink, or falling over pile. Include utensils, glasses, etc that would be sitting waiting to be clean. Think Detail and do not worry about composition….leave them as they are. Any Media

** Challenge Sketches ** / Nuts & Bolts…..draw a detailed drawing of at least three nuts and bolts from your fathers workbench… include values, dimensions, shadows, and light sources. Perspective and compositions will be big in this sketch…. Pencil

January 15 / Free Choice! Set up your own arrangement of three+ related objects, of varying sizes, to observe and draw. No copy work allowed! The drawing must be based on observation of the objects! Refer to earlier assignments for ideas of the types of objects/compositions that might be appropriate. (*Note: Extra Credit is only offered when all other drawing assignments have been done; it is considered “extra” and cannot replace an earlier missing drawing assignment!)
