UPDATE – Main Fire – Tuesday, August 18, 2009 -- Fire Break Nears Completion
Tijeras, NM -- The Main Fire activity is low today with a few hot spots observed. We expect tree stumps and roots will continue to smolder until we receive good wetting rains. The area will continue to be monitored within the Withdrawn Land utilizing both Kirtland and Sandia Ranger District firefighters.
Public and firefighter safety continue to be our number one priority. Forest Service roads and trails to the west of State Highway 337 remain closed to ensure public safety while fire crews continue to work on reducing vegetation along the forest boundary.
The ramping down process is underway for some of the personnel assigned to the Main Fire.
Two crews along side the masticator will remain assigned to complete the fire break and monitor the area.
We thank you all for the continued public cooperation and awareness to the increased fire apparatus on community roadways. This has resulted in a very safe operation.
Partners supporting these efforts include Kirtland Air Force Base, Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department, Bernalillo County Fire, Bernalillo County Emergency Management, Southern Pueblo Agencies, New Mexico State Forestry Inmate Work Camp and New Mexico State Forestry Division of the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department.
PLEASE NOTE: The information checkpoint at Raven Road will no longer be active after Tuesday afternoon. All information will be provided by the Sandia Ranger District 505-81-3304, Extension 120.
