Reference: FRAMEWORK PAGE 52

Mental and oral / Objectives / Find the multiples of numbers 2 to 10
Activity
10 min / Use a counting stick to count up in 2s, 5s. 8s etc
Use the word multiple and ask for any common multiples 'Were any numbers the same when we did the 2s and the 5s?'
Try counting along with 2 numbers e.g. 2s and 5s (label the ends of the stick)
Main part of lesson / Objectives / Recognise multiples and the connections between multiples, divisors and factors
Key vocabulary / 'is a multiple of' 'is divisible by' 'is a factor of'
Introduction
and Activity

5 min
20 min
5/10 min / 1.  Put the numbers 3,4,5,6,12,18,20,40 on cards on the board
Have the 3 phrases 'is a multiple of' 'is divisible by' 'is a factor of' on cards. Ask for a pair of numbers that fit 'is a multiple of'. Any more?
Can we use all 8 cards? Repeat for 'is divisible by' and 'is a factor of'
Draw out links between the statements.
2.  Use digit cards. Ask questions such as 'Find a multiple of 5'
'Find a number divisible by 6' 'Find a number with 5 as a factor'
'Find a number which is a multiple of 2 and 5'
3.  Demonstrate the '4 in a line' multiples game on the OHP. (Have class in 2 teams and use the large dice). Class then play the game in pairs.
'Gozinto' is a harder version of this and can be used for the more able.
(pupils may need multiplication table squares)
IF TIME
4. Worksheet 'Who am I' (pupils may need a 1-100 square to help them
Differentiation / Harder version of the multiples game
Progressively hard worksheet
Plenary / 5 min / Play 'Identify Me' with the whole class. (Tell class, for example, 'I am thinking of a number between 20 and 28. You have to find it by asking questions only using the words multiple, factor, divisible, prime' )
