Mr. Tugman is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and of the Executive Program of the School of Business Administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Mr. Tugman and his wife, Linda, reside in Greensboro where they raised their two children, Michael Frederick and Jeffrey Stuart. He has been actively involved in Christ United Methodist Church serving several terms on the finance committee, the administrative council and the administrative board. An avid golfer, he is a member of Sedgefield Country Club.

Tugman joined the Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Company in 1963, transferred to the home office Agency Department in 1966, and served in several capacities within the company. He was elected Vice President and headed the Advanced Sales Department for Jefferson Standard Life and Jefferson-Pilot Life from 1981 to 1997. From 1997 until retirement, he served as Vice President – Field Support for Jefferson-Pilot Life Insurance Company.

Mr. Tugman received his CLU designation in 1970, fellowship in the Life Office Management Association Institute in 1971, his Chartered Financial Consultant designation in 1982, and his Accredited Estate Planner designation in 1993. He is past President of the Greensboro CLU Chapter, the Greensboro Estate Planning Council, the Board of Directors of the Greensboro Association of Life Underwriters, and a member of the Association for Advanced Life Underwriters. He served as a member of LIMRA’s Advanced Sales Committee from 1980 through 2001. He was Program Chairman of the 1984 LIMRA Advanced Sales Forum and Chairman of the Advanced Sales Committee in 1985.

He was a faculty member of the American Society of CLU & ChFC programs including national institutes and seminars and served as the Society's and American College's spokesperson on the "Money Matters" segment of the nationally-televised program, "Nation's Business Today".

Mr. Tugman has served on the Board of Directors of the Membership Development Institute, a non-profit corporation which advances entrepreneurship.

Mr. Tugman was elected to a three-year term on the national Board of Directors of the American Society of CLU & ChFC in 1984. He was elected to the American Society Executive Committee in 1993 and served as national president in 1996-97.

Mr. Tugman served on the Board of Trustees for The American College in Bryn Mawr, PA 1996-1998. He also served a two-year term on the Inter-Company Marketing Group Board of Directors for 1999-2001.

Mr. Tugman served two terms on the Board of Directors for the Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education from 1997 through 2001. Mr. Tugman currently serves on a Life Insurance Industry Task Force For The Future.
