Part II: Reflection

CANDIDATE REFLECTIONS:
(Minimum of 3-4 sentences per question)
1. Briefly describe the field experience. What did you learn about technology facilitation and leadership from completing this field experience?
During ITEC 7410, I was able to research and assess staff professional learning needs, and review school improvement plans/technology plans. I also conducted a SWOT analysis to gain a view of the school strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. A lot of research went in to these projects and I was able to use the information to design an action plan to support any concerns identified as a school need for improvement. By being able to examine the strengths, weaknesses, thoughts, and beliefs of my school/staff, I was able to look at where we are as a school. It also allowed me to collaborate and communicate with other teachers about technology use which allowed for informational discussions. I also learned how to better meet the technology needs of low SES and gender groups within the school.
2. How did this learning relate to the knowledge (what must you know), skills (what must you be able to do) and dispositions (attitudes, beliefs, enthusiasm) required of a technology facilitator or technology leader? (Refer to the standards you selected in Part I. Use the language of the PSC standards in your answer and reflect on all 3—knowledge, skills, and dispositions.)
During this learning process, I was able to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to effectively and collaboratively develop a technology plan to assist my school in utilizing technology to improve teaching, learning, and assessment. Becoming knowledgeable in researched-based methods helped me to gather data for the the SWOT analysis. Needs improvement strategies were noted in the plan as well as. I demonstrated skills by designing and developing an action plan to offer ways to fix technology areas in my school that need improvement. This helps support the cycle of continuous improvement to ensure teachers are well-prepared to meet the needs of their learners. I demonstrated a good disposition throughout this process. I did a lot of reflecting during the creation of the technology plan, which which helped me to feel better knowledgeable about myself as an ITS.
3. Describe how this field experience impacted school improvement, faculty development or student learning at your school. How can the impact be assessed?
This field experience can impact faculty develop and improve student learning. Since I created a technology vision for my school, it allows staff to aim for distinct goals with technology integration. Before this plan, there was no vision in the SIP. Teachers did not have anything to aim for when in came to technology integration. The SWOT will allow the staff to evaluate the school’s strengths and weaknesses so they may be familiar with them as well.
Student learning will definitely increase with the implementation of a technology vision/plan for the school. The vision can open the door for more professional developments geared towards technology which will increase teacher awareness. With teachers implementing technology more and finding ways to reach the low SES and gender groups, we will be able to meet the needs of so many more students at MES.
