SAE Formula One Group Status Report 1:

In the previous semester we have completed the preliminary research in the aerodynamic field. With our group containing 11 members we made the decision to break into subgroups; these subgroups are front wing/ nose cone, side pods, diffuser, and rear wing. Then came the research and design process of each separate aerodynamic part. The deadline of having these parts designed and uploaded was 12/4/16. Where we are as a team now is the process of making subtle changes to the previous designs and preparing them for the manufacturing process. In the upcoming weeks we hope to achieve the scale proportion in preparation for 3-D printing. After the desired scale is decided among the groups, we plan to have the scale model components designed and finished so they can be sent to the 3-D printer. Once all the parts are made we will assemble them on our scale frame and start the wind tunnel testing. Assuming the wind tunnel testing gives us good results we will then create a larger scale model almost to full scale and take it to a larger wind tunnel to obtain more data on our aero package of the car. If the wind tunnel testing gives us bad data we have to go back and re-adjust our initial design and print off the new designs. We will keep fine tuning our models until we have results that we find suitable enough for our full scale car. If time and resources allow, we will attempt to fabricate the full aero package for the Formula car.
