Project or Service Activity: Creating a classroom website

Professional Standards(s) NETS standards: 2b, 3b-d, 5b

Directions: Meet with the site supervisor to approve and develop local projects or service activities that will support your Practicum plan. Projects or service activity plans must include the categories listed below. Complete the following categories and place in your electronic portfolio.

1) Other faculty or staff involved in the project/activity: (1 point)

Janie VandeBerg (mentor) and Sharon Robinson (supervising administrator)

2) Statement of a need for the project/activity: (1 point)

Creating a classroom website provides my students with a home base in which they have access to in and outside of our school. Not only can my student’s access links, a variety of technology, post blogs, and turn in assignments using our class website, on days they are absent they can access the work they missed in order not to fall behind. The classroom website is also a place that parents can view to see what their children are learning in their social studies classroom.

3) Project Goal: (1 point)

My goal is to create and maintain a classroom website in which my students have access to everything we do in class, including class participation.

4) Resources needed/available: (1 point)

Access to technology (school computer labs, laptops, and/or student’s own devices), teacher computer, scanner, printer, the Internet (both student use and teacher use), a Dropbox account, time to work on development of the website and time for students to access website during the class.

5) Timeline: (2 points)

The website is already created, but every day I need to add student work, post updates on what was learned, maintain the class calendar, check for student comments, and work on overall maintenance of the site.

6) Evaluation methods: (2 points)

My mentor Janie and I have different prep periods. This allows Janie the opportunity to come into my classroom during her prep period on days my students are using the class website. She also has technology available to go on and provide suggestions to the layout and content of the class website, as does my administrator Sharon. Throughout the practicum, I will periodically ask Janie and Sharon for feedback on the class website.

7) Professional standards addressed: (2 points)

NETS standards:

· Develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress.

· Develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress.

· Communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital age media and formats.

· Model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning.

· Exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion, participating in shared decision making and community building, and developing the leadership and technology skills of others.

8) Project/activity summary: (2 points)

Providing a place for my students to access in and outside my room will not only encourage participation, but keep my students active in their own learning. The website will allow students to collaborate with their peers, teachers, as well as themselves by providing a home base they are familiar. The content within the website will provide students with every opportunity to succeed as they work towards graduation.
