Chapter 1: I ntroduction

Motivation: When I was a child, every night I sat in front of the TV and waited the movie to start. Then when the music Disney began, there would be a little fairy waving a magic wand and start to sprinkle magical dust and the movie began. There was the magic and dreams began. The next two hours, it might be an adventure, a story about friendship, the royalties, or a romantic love story. Now, it has been like ten years, and those movies still make me excited, agitated and they touch me again and again. When I first went to Disneyland, every view that I see made me want to cry. It seemed to be a dream coming true and all of the staff were just so kind and friendly. Disney is a place where my and our dreams come true in life. And I want to know what it takes to build movies, adventures, dreams and more.

Purposes: Where does Disney’s magic come from? The movies? Those characters? Or these cartoons? We all heard of Disney’ secret of success: They are called customers, guest and Theme parks, show, and they are also called the stuffs behind the scenes and back stage. Disney’s success doesn’t just rely on Mickey Mouseor Pinocchio, its success comes from their faith and management. My research purposes are trying to find out what the key that made Disney so successful is.

Miley Cyrus Miley Ray Cyrus (born Destiny Hope Cyrus; November 23, 1992) is an American actress and pop singer. She achieved wide fame for her role as Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel sitcom Hannah Montana. Cyrus recorded music for the soundtracks, Hannah Montana (2006) and Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus (2007), released by Walt Disney Records. With the success of the Hannah Montana franchise she established herself as a teen idol. In 2007, Cyrus signed to Hollywood Records to pursue a solo career. She went on the Best of Both Worlds Tour the same year, in which she performed as both herself and in character as Hannah Montana. The tour was eventually turned into a high-grossing concert film entitled Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert (2008). In July 2008, Cyrus released her first solo album, Breakout (2008), which was commercially successful.

She began her foray into film by providing the voice of "Penny" in the animated film Bolt (2008). Cyrus earned a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song for her performance of Bolt's theme song, "I Thought I Lost You". She also reprised her role as Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana in Hannah Montana: The Movie (2009). The Hannah Montana: The Movie' soundtrack introduced her to new audiences within country and adult contemporary markets. She began to cultivate an adult image in 2009 with the release of The Time of Our Lives (2009), an extended play which presented a more mainstream pop sound, and by filming The Last Song (2010), a coming-of-age drama film. The former included Cyrus's best-selling single, "Party in the U.S.A." (2009). A studio album titled Can't Be Tamed was released in 2010 and presents a new dance-pop sound. The music video and lyrics of the album's lead single, "Can't Be Tamed", portrays a more sexualized image for the entertainer. Cyrus ranked number thirteen on Forbes' 2010 Celebrity 100.

Cyrus's performance of "Party in the U.S.A." at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards incited a media uproar, with some viewers criticizing Cyrus's provocative outfit and inclusion of a brief pole dance as inappropriate for her age, then sixteen, and for her young fans. Later that year in December, TMZ released a video of Cyrus, which took place five days after her 18th birthday at her Los Angeles home, in which she is seen smoking from a bong. She claimed she was smoking the psychoactive plant salvia divinorum, although this has not been confirmed by anybody but Cyrus herself.

On November 1, 2010, Lovato's publicist announced that she had left the Jonas Brothers' Live in Concert tour early during the preceding weekend in order to enter a treatment center and "seek medical treatment for emotional and physical issues she has dealt with for some time." How Disney Builds Stars?

Hannah Montana plated by Miley Cyrus started on March, 24, 2006 on Disney and soon come really popular. Then Disney continues to present Wizards of Waverly Place played by Selena Gomez in 2007. To propagandize the show, Disney let Selena appeared with Miley on Hannah Montana and The Suite Life on Deck. On 2007, The Jonas Brothers popped up on Hannah Montana and Hannah Montana: Best OF Both Worlds tour and movie. The next year, as 2008, Jonas Brothers had their own hit show, Jonas. At the same year, there was a new girl named Demi Lovato co-starred in Princess Protection Program with Selena, and they also appeared on Jonas: Living the Dream. Then she joined the Jonas Brothers in Camp Rock, Jonas Brothers: The Concert Experience and Camp Rock: The Final Jam. In 2009, Demi Lovato played the role Sonny in Sonny with a Chance. At the same time, a new teen star, Bridgit Mendler had a guest role on Wizards of Waverly Place and she was also on Jonas. In the case, the way Disney builds stars is: First, have the stars appear on popular Disney shows so audiences will get to know them. Then give the new stars their own TV show, a recording contract, concert tour and tie-in merchandise sold in Dismay stores.

With all these products,Disney makes a lot of money. The Disney Teen Machine formula is a success. But teen stars are often too young to handle fame and gain, like Miley was only twelve when she played Hannah Montana. And Selena wsa twelve, too, when she was discovered by Disney. Demi was seven when she began her acting career. Now, Miley is taking drug, and Demi was sick because of reducing weight and her relationships. So, what really matter is teen stars need to learn how to keep and handle fame and wealth.
