Readers Theater Unlimited of Olympia presents “Three Delightful Comedies” August 21-22, 2010 at Olympia Little Theatre. Admission is by donation and the proceeds will benefit the Senior Services for South Sound and OLT’s Raise-the-Roof Fund. The performance will start at 7pm on Saturday, August 21, and 2pm on Sunday, August 22.

The Plays:

“Lysistrata”: A bawdy comedy by the great Greek satirist Aristophanes. One woman’s brilliant idea to make an end to all wars! Adapted by Wilfried Lippman.

“The Town Council Meeting”: You may not wish your own town council to function in the screwed-up manner but it’s a lot of fun to watch! Written by Mike Willis.

“The Shakespearian Baseball Game”: The Bard gets involved in America’s favorite pastime with his usual dramatic flair (and this time, the male roles are played by women!). Written by Wayne & Shuster.

The Group:

Readers Theater Unlimited (RTU) is a local group of volunteer actors dedicated to providing entertainment to the public by performing both one-act and full-length plays. RTU’s support comes from donations and grants; the group is affiliated with Senior Services.

As the name implies, performers read from their scripts directly during the performance. The actions in the script and the emotions of the characters are conveyed by the actors’ voices, facial expressions, and gestures. Words as spoken and read become the most important part of the performances. The audience is asked to concentrate on the wonderful world of words.
