REPORTS TO: Dietary Manager

METHOD OF PAY: Hourly

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The primary purpose of the position is to prepare the facility’s food in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations governing our facility and as may be directed by the Dietary Manager. The cook will accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook and present a variety of hot and/or cold food items for various meal periods.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITY:

· Prepares food under direct supervision or instruction by operating a variety of kitchen equipment to measure and mix ingredients, washing, pealing, cutting and shredding fruits and vegetables, and trimming meat, poultry or fish for culinary use.

· Estimates food requirements, checks production and keeps records in order to accurately plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment.

· Follows basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving and serving soups, meats, vegetables, deserts, and other foodstuffs for consumption

· May prepare meals for residents requiring special diets

· Clean food preparation areas, cooking surfaces, and utensils.

· Maintain sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas.

· Measure ingredients required for specific food items being prepared.

· Mix ingredients

· Operate large-volume cooking equipment such as grills, deep-fat fryers, or griddles.

· Verify that prepared food meets requirements for quality and quantity.

· Wash, cut, and prepare foods designated for cooking.

· Clean, stock, and restock workstations and display cases.

KEY STRENGTHS AND REQUIREMNTS:

· Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 10 feet.

· Must be flexible in willingness and ability to work beyond normal duty hours, including weekends, and in other situations as needed to meet the requirements of Magnolia Manor residents.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

· Must possess, as a minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent

· 1-2 years of related work experience preferred
