Propaganda Project

What is Propaganda? Propaganda is the act of spreading ideas, information, or rumors for the purpose of helping one side or hurting another side. During World War I, the world will see the first wide-scale use of propaganda. The most common media forms of propaganda during the war were posters. These posters were displayed throughout the duration of the war with a variety of different messages on them.

Directions.

Your job will be to construct a poster from the perspective of the country that you were assigned.

1. Is your country a central power or an allied power?

a. What do you want? Soldiers to join your army or navy, for other countries to join your country in fighting your enemies, or money from your citizens to help support your war effort.

2. Come up with a slogan or message that you want people to see.

a. Example…I Want You! (a U.S. army recruiting poster)

3. Create an image on the poster.

a. You can draw, trace, cut out, or print out any pictures that you think will help you spread your message to others.

4. Keep in mind your poster should be like a commercial.

a. It should get peoples attention.

b. You should use some creativity while making this poster.
