Title: / Stress Management: Test Anxiety
Summary: / Students will learn about what test anxiety is, its effects, and strategies to manage anxiety
Time Frame: / 20-30 minutes
Procedure: / 1.  Begin powerpoint presentation on test anxiety. Ask students if they know what test anxiety is.
2.  Give the example of a student who pays attention in class, studies for the test, and then freezes during the test and cannot remember anything they studied.
3.  Explain the physical, emotional, and mental effects of test anxiety. Ask students to participate. What are some physical effects you have experienced? And so on…
4.  At the “Dealing with Thoughts” slide, pass out handout “Test Anxiety: Common Worries.” Have them check the thoughts that they have had about a test. Then, have them translate those negative thoughts into positive ones. Invite students to share how they changed their thoughts. Give an example of how to do this.
5.  After the “Dealing with Physical Tension” slide, practice deep breathing.
6.  End with discussion on test-taking tips. Ask students if they can think of any other tips that would help reduce anxiety.
7.  Challenge students to use some of the strategies we learned today throughout the next week if they feel anxiety. At the beginning of the next lesson, ask if anyone found the strategies helpful.
Evaluation
