Pizza/ Subway Lunch Update:

  • Nothing to discuss

Transportation Committee:

  • Meeting held on March 27th 2018
  • Community member/parent attended and found that sending reminder sheet out to parents last month has helped with the flow of traffic and parents following rules of kiss and ride.
  • Large no parking/kiss and ride area signs are being made and should be ready by the end of the month.

Further action:

  • Send out reminder sheet maybe at the beginning and end of every month.

Playground:

Morris Lafrate, a representative from TCDSB came to our meeting to discuss why our playground paving project has been delayed until summer 2019:

  • $32 580 dollars deposited to the Board in 2016 for plans. $10k was spent
  • Total to date: $73 553
  • Delivery of our playground revitalization project is delayed due to the repaving project being delayed.
  • Although not great news to hear, this allows us another big fundraising project so that we get to our $100k goal.
  • Ministry does ranking and choice of budget. With an old school like ours the main goal is to get the electrical panel and stairwell fixed. Fixing these items will require large trucks to come to the scene and with paving happening that would interfere.
  • Project will be pegged for the 2019 funding.
  • Ministry inspection occurred in 2017 and the next one is scheduled for 5 years so there should be no other disruptions to the playground development.
  • According to ministry there are a lot more maintenance/safety priority issues in this school other than paving and the playground so this is their reason for the delay.
  • Renewal plan should be approved in September 2018.
  • Why wasn't electrical panel addressed with the school addition? Morris said because for additions they don't look at potential issues in the older parts of the schools.

Further action:

  • Communicate more frequently with board officials about future plans.
  • Discuss with committee members our next big fundraiser seeing as time has been extended.

Questions for Morris Lafrate (Senior Coordinator-Capital Development):

1) Is the capital for repaving project still secured and are we certain that it will be allocated to complete the project in the summer of 2019/20

  • Morris said he can 99% guarantee it.

2) What caused the movement (delay of thespend) Describe the build of internal stair cases and electrical panel. Why did the previous projects take priority?

  • stair case has been deemed urgent and if its not fixed and some one gets hurt, questions are going to be posed as to why it did not get fixed and a playground was built.

3) Why can’t all the projects be completed together? (as it was described to Andy - separate contractors have to be used and so the former projects prevent the completion of the third which is our repaving project)

  • funds, and the projects that were deemed urgent require large trucks that would interfere with the paving project.

4) Is it possible for us to have better communication from the board if changes occur?

  • Morris will try his best to keep Ms. Figliomeni informed and when the new person is hired a name will be given for further communication.

Playground Committee to send out follow up information to the community explain everything discussed in our meeting.

Treasurer's Report:

Co-Treasurer, Annabella Barreto advises, we actually have a deficit of approx. $1,600 so these number are not accurate! It was just discovered that the formulas in the spreadsheet were not all correct. Ms. Barreto will sort everything out by next month’s meeting. Historically, CSPC has a surplus of money from allocations. We are sure that this money coming back to CSPC will cover the deficit.

Allocation Requests:

  • Leukemia pizza lunch for top 3 classes (to be discussed at next meeting as we don't have funds right now). Jennifer Celio suggests we ask Pizza Nova to donate these pizzas instead. Jennifer Celio to discuss with Pizza Nova.

Other Business:

Pro Grant Update:

  • May 1st 2018 (Our Positive life online)
  • Total cost is approximately $2 800 (this includes two 60 minutes student workshops, a parent's evening and materials for classroom teachers)

End of year BBQ:

  • What type of event do we want to hold?

Small bbq with activity for kids or more large scale with beer tent, bouncy castle, more like a fair?

Fun fair: relate it to OLP turning 65 this year and instead of just focusing on the current students we can call back past students. Council agreed to do this in the fall IF we are able to get enough volunteers to help plan and run the fun fair.

It was suggested that instead of bbq offer pizza and if you run out of food you order more and it comes in 20 minutes. Keep the year end bbq simple. (utilize the current vendors we have i.e. subway, pita pit, booster juice)Sonia Hingley and Jennifer Celio to look into these options.
