NPower mobilizes the tech community and provides individuals, nonprofits and schools access and opportunity to build tech skills and achieve their potential. We pursue this mission through two signature programs:

Technology Service Corps builds brighter futures for underserved young adults and veterans through free technology and professional skills training. The program includes technical classes, mentoring from business leaders, internships and career development workshops at leading corporations and nonprofits, industry-recognized certifications as well as employment and alumni services. More than 80% of our alumni are employed or pursuing higher education within one year of graduation.The Community Corps is a skills-based volunteering program connecting technology professionals with high impact nonprofits and innovative education partners. Our tech volunteers enable schools and nonprofits across the country to use technology more effectively and inspire the next generation to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). PILOT PROGRAM

Symantec, a cybersecurity leader, is launching a program called the Symantec Cyber Career Connection (SC3), to help close this workforce gap and create a path to meaningful careers for underserved young adults (18-29) who may not have the resources to attend college. NPower was chosen as a partner to pilot the 26 week (16 weeks of training, 10 week internship) cyber training program for 15 NPower Technology Service Corps alumni. The program was announced by Senator Hillary Clinton during the Clinton Global Initiative in June 2014. The program will launch in September and we are looking to hire an instructor by August 1st. http://go.symantec.com/cyber-career-connection The position will span from August 2014 through March 2015.

POSITION SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is to create and manage technology instruction, help the students to become certified in the Network +, Security + and Certified Ethical Hacker, and prepare them for an entry-level position in the cyber field. The instructor will be responsible for creating an innovative technology curriculum that caters to different student learning styles such as; Visual/Verbal, Visual/ Nonverbal, Tactile/Kinesthetic, and Auditory/ Verbal for Technology Service Corps members from the ages of 18-30.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Instruction/Classroom Management/ Curriculum Design/ Student Evaluation/Administration

• Daily instruction of IT: Network+, Security + curriculum, security concepts, Help Desk, Network Admin, and Database Administration skills to a class of 15.

• Teach the following modules:

Ø Cisco Network Academy- Network+ and Security + Curriculum

Ø Desktop Support and Troubleshooting: Windows XP & Vista& 7; Network Connectivity; Printing; Internet and Email Applications.

Ø Networking: Wireless, Peer to Peer & Client Server Technology and Applications: 2003/2008, TCP/IP, Disaster Recovery & Backup Procedures, Active Directory, File and Print Service, Network Security, and Imaging Software like Ghost.

• Train, prepare and work to maintain at least an 80 percent passing rate for the Network+, Security Plus and Certified Ethical Hacker certification exams.

• Work to maintain at least an 80 percent student retention rate.

• Increase critical thinking, analysis, and problem solving skills of students.

• Provide guidance and structure for self-directed and life-long learning and motivate students to actively participate and engage in learning.

• Be able to impart real-world scenarios that are outside of “core” course of study (example: handling server down-time with users, etc).

• Produce and instruct high-quality, well-prepared classes where students learn, are challenged and enjoy the learning process.

• Create daily lesson plans for developed curriculum that includes objectives, goals, activities, terminology, materials needed, and labs. Must be submitted to TSC Program management for review and approval.

• Ensure students’ technical skills meet needs of internship partners and job placement requirements. Contribute to assessment tools that measure learning and growth of students and to ensure successful transition of students into jobs and careers.

• Coach and facilitate awareness of customer service and phone support skills.

• Work closely with Internship Coordinator to maintain and create internship host partnerships.

• Create technology training syllabus and rubrics system for grading students.

• Create seating charts on a weekly basis for classes.

• Troubleshoot classroom technical issues. Work with NPower’s technology support team to do so.

• Maintain and keep a professional, clean, and organized classroom environment at all times.

• Provide regular, accurate and timely feedback to the students and staff relative to their performance.

• Advise, support and advocate for students throughout the program and during crucial transitions.

• Continuously evaluate and improve the program’s contribution to its students and program placement sites.

• Assist Workforce Team (Internship Coordinator, Job Developer, and Alumni Coordinator) with managing and preparing students for TSC site visits, Guest Lectures, and Professional Development Workshops.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

At minimum one of the following must be met:

• Experience teaching Cisco IT Essentials Course.

• Must have an A+, Network + and Security + certifications. Certified Ethical hacker certification preferred.

• A two-year or four-year college degree preferred.

development, education, information technology, youth development, human potential, human resources, IT staffing, or social services.

Skills Required:

1) At least five years of technical employment.

2) At least two years of teaching experience.
