Pick Your Poison Poster

Toxicology is the study of poisons, and their chemical and physical effects on the body. There have been many cases of people intentionally trying to poison another. We are going to research some cases and explore the forensics behind the toxicology; thus proving once again crime doesn’t pay.

Attached is a list of poisons and cases in which these poisons were involved. Each pair will be responsible for researching a different poison and case involving that poison. Then they will design a poster containing the following information:

Poison Info:

·  Type of poison- : household or environmental poisons, plants, invertebrates, vertebrates, or food, alcohol, drug—synthetic or natural.

·  Level of toxicity- (how much will make one sick? How much is lethal? What unit is measured?)

·  “Chemistry” of the poison—element? Compound? Formula or symbol; state of matter

·  Other uses of the poison

·  Effects or symptoms on the body-- what does this chemical do to the body? How does it interfere with the body?

·  Detection- how does science trace the chemical? How do you get a diagnosis of this poison?

·  Lasting effects of possible treatments

Case info:

·  Describe the story in detail- what happened and why?

·  Give the; Who? Where? When?

·  How were the perpetrators caught?

·  What forensic evidence was used including toxicology reports

·  List punishment if convicted.

****No two pair will research the same toxin. Once you and your partner have decided on your toxin, let your teacher know. You will need to include a proper reference page- including full web page URL’s used. You may discuss details of other cases in which your toxin was used but the concentration should be on your case of choice. RRCH

DUE DATE – Friday October 28, 2016. 10 pts penalty for each day late.
