Photographer Study

1.  Choose a well-known photographer and have it approved and recorded by the instructor. Question to ask: Can I find interesting facts and biographical information about my photographer and photos that I can save and integrate into a PowerPoint?

2.  Research information about the photographer using books, magazines, web sites or online. If it is a living photographer, one of the citations may be an interview.

Ø  Cite and document at least three sources, one of which is not an internet source, using the Citation Maker which is linked on the WLHS Library website.

Ø  Put citations in alphabetical order using MLA format.

Ø  Clearly label your non-internet source.

Ø  Provide a formal bibliography; label it Bibliography at the top.

3.  Prepare a PowerPoint presentation which includes a photo on each slide (no photos used as a background) and bulleted, brief information [sample available on my website]:

Ø  an outline of your major points

Ø  examples of the person’s photography

Ø  photograph of the photographer

Ø  captions

Ø  headlines

Ø  brief biography

Oral presentation:

Ø  Should be at least four minutes

Ø  Introduction begins with the most interesting thing you found out about the person, not “My report is on, or I did my report on…”

Ø  Highlights what is interesting, individual or important about this person

Ø  Tells why you chose this photographer

Ø  Explains any terminology that may be unfamiliar

Ø  Discusses five photos—why are they good? How do they demonstrate the qualities of good photography—composition including the elements and principles of design?

Ø  Explain how you feel about the photographer after researching him or her.

Ø  Is delivered using eye contact, good posture and appropriate voice.
