APRIL 5, 2015 EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD

FROM FR DAN’S DESK…

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!

I want to wish all of you in our parish, and those visiting with us today, the true blessings of this Easter Season!

I hope this day, perhaps spent at the dinner table with family or friends, will inspire good conversation about our Faith and the blessing it is for us to know Jesus and to share in His life, death and resurrection! I realize that there is a tension sometimes on the holidays, between our older generations for whom our Faith was always a given, and our younger generations who question more thoughtfully, the existence of God and the importance of His Church and a more “active” practice of the Faith. As humans, we do have the gift of the ability to use both head and heart, in discerning the Truth of God’s existence and His love and care for us. Whatever our age or wherever we are with our faith - we all are a “work in progress” in God’s eyes. Perhaps as we break bread together today with those we love, we may talk openly, and listen carefully, to one another. God’s desire is that we have an active relationship with him through prayer and interaction with one another! Let us all be “evangelizers” in how we speak about our faith – not “twisting” arms of those we love, but simply witnessing to what we believe in – our example and the joy on our faces when we talk about our faith is the best witness of all!

I certainly think that we, as a Parish this year, have celebrated Lent with great reverence and devotion – experiences like Fr. Gary Caster’s Weekly Wednesday Evening Lenten Series – “A Short Course in Love”, the Visit of the Relic of St. John Paul II, the Healing Mass with Fr. McCarthy, the Men’s Retreat, the Women’s Evening of Reflection, the Stations of the Cross – especially the Children’s “Living” Stations, the Lenten Penance Service with the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Confession, or our participation in the Lenten Rice Bowl Collection for those in need around the world – I hope all of you had a chance to take part in some or all of these uplifting experiences which help to make the celebration of the Lord’s resurrection this day – more meaningful!

A special congratulations to our RCIA Candidates who receive the Easter Sacraments at the Vigil this weekend – Andrea Babinski, Bobbie Jo Reed, Eric Niedziela, Jeremy Rudzik and Tammy Dougherty! Also thanks to their supportive Sponsors, the RCIA Team, and RCIA Coordinator Joline Lambert. And blessings to four year old Everett Reed, son of Bobbie Jo and Patrick Reed, on his Baptism at the Easter Vigil! May the Risen Christ inspire your hearts and keep you ever in His care!

Wishing all of us who are the Catholic Community of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Parish, the peace and inner joy of knowing God’s love for us and the sacrifice of His Son which gives us all the hope of eternal life!

God Bless, Fr. Dan

“RUN WESTFIELD” – PARISH TEAM

REGISTER NOW

Saturday May 16 (1:00PM Start), is the date of the 5K Road Race – “Run Westfield”, begun two years ago by our parishioner – Mike Tierney. The race begins at Westfield State University and culminates in downtown Westfield with a kind of “street festival”.

Our Parish is forming a “Team” called “Wholely Spirit – Team OLBS”. We will have our own colored Tee Shirts and our Team Name imprinted upon them. Our charity will be the “Westfield Soup Kitchen – Summer Program” – to assist them in purchasing food during the slow Summer months of food donations. The race is 3.1 miles and can be run or walked. For more information or to Register, please go on to the “Run Westfield” website: www.runwestfield.com. Click on “Registration for Flat Fast 5K”, scroll down to “Select Method of Registration”, and select the first option – “Join a Team” – follow the prompts from there. Again our Team Name is: “Wholely Spirit – Team OLBS”.

Also, anyone wanting to contribute to our Team’s fundraising designated group – The Westfield Soup Kitchen – can make a donation under Fr. Dan ‘s name on the website. He is the “team captain”, and all contributions made under his name will go to the Soup Kitchen on behalf of the whole team!
