Hansel, one of Scotland's foremost charities in the field of Social Care, delivers an extensive range of support services to individuals with learning disabilities throughout Ayrshire.

On-Site Supported Living Service, based in Broadmeadows, Symington, is looking to recruit Support Workers to join our dedicated team of care professionals. We provide a quality service that meets the needs and expectations of all service users with a wide range of diverse and complex care and health issues, including physical disability, behaviour that challenges, and people with autistic disorders. This exciting opportunity will involve providing support to adults living in their own tenancies and also young adults, with packages of support that reflect our principle of ordinary living.

The successful applicant should have:

·  Experience of working with individuals with learning disabilities in a similar environment

·  An SVQ 3 (or equivalent) social care qualification

·  Experience of updating and implementing Care Plans

·  Experience administering medication

·  The ability to work flexibly to a planned rota including days, evening and weekends

·  The ability to lone work as well as work within a team environment

·  A commitment to working in a person-centered way to offer choice and promote inclusion

JOB TITLE: Support Worker (Supported Living)

REPORTING TO: Service Manager

RESPONSIBLE TO Director/Depute Director of Care Services

JOB PURPOSE: To assist the Service Manager to develop and deliver a Supported Living Service which meets the identified needs of people with a learning disability and their carers.

ORGANISATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

¨  To be accountable to the Service Manager for the tasks devolved and the responsibilities assigned.

¨  To assist the Service Manager with the efficient maintenance of day-to-day administrative requirements.

¨  To ensure that, policies in relation to health and safety at work are understood and implemented.

¨  To ensure that, within the services offered, he/she contributes to the maintenance of good employee relations and communications.

OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

¨  To work individually, and as part of a team, to promote and ensure the rights, dignity, welfare and safety of service users and to promote the individual choices of each user.

¨  To be responsible for carrying out efficiently and effectively, the assigned duties relating to the support service for each service user.

¨  To be responsible for reporting issues of importance and/or concern to the Service Manager.

¨  To present a clear understanding of the needs of adults with learning disabilities, in the context of the aims and objectives of the service, and have the skills to make a positive and effective contribution to service provision.

¨  In conjunction with other team members, to create an environment and service that, enable service users to understand their rights and responsibilities. The organisation is committed to a person-centred approach and uses Essential Lifestyle Planning as part of the process of developing individual packages of support.

¨  To be involved in the handling/use of medication, under the guidance of the Service Manager and in line with stated policies and in accordance with acknowledged methods and standards of “good practice”.

¨  To be involved in, and as appropriate, participate in service users’ holidays.

¨  To take advantage of opportunities for staff development through supervision, reviews of work, training etc.

¨  To have functional responsibility for the resources allocated.

¨  To contribute to effective communication between colleagues, care managers and other professionals.

¨  To undertake any other duties assigned by the Service Manager which are appropriate to the role of Support Worker.
