JOB DESCRIPTION

Post Title: / TEACHER OF SCIENCE (Chemistry Specialism)
Purpose: / ·  To have a secure knowledge and understanding of the Science Curriculum in KS3 and 4.
·  To teach Science at KS3 and GCSE and BTEC at KS5.
·  Undertake responsibilities associated with Learning and Teaching in accordance with the aims of the college and the curricular policies determined by the Governing Body and Headteacher of the college.
·  Be a good or outstanding teacher of Science.
·  To teach inspirational and relevant lessons which engage students and challenge their thinking.
·  To use the rigorous assessment procedures within the college to monitor student progress and provide appropriate intervention.
·  Establish a purposeful learning environment, where students feel safe to ‘take chances’ and explore their understanding.
·  Have a passion for teaching that drives you to evaluate effectiveness of strategies, to modify lessons when required so that students in your classes learn more effectively year on year.
·  To be a key team member, whose positive attitude and enthusiasm for teaching inspires colleagues. To actively discuss ideas for outstanding lessons on a regular basis and to share high quality resources within the department.
·  To have responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young adults he/she is responsible for, or comes into contact with.
Reporting to: / Head of Science
Liaising with: / Head of Science, relevant staff with cross-college responsibilities, relevant non-teaching support staff, staff and parents.
Working Time: / Full time
Salary/Grade: / TMS

Pastoral System: / To monitor students’ attendance together with students’ progress and performance in relation to targets set for each individual; ensuring that follow-up procedures are adhered to and that appropriate action is taken where necessary.
Teaching: / To undertake an appropriate programme of teaching in accordance with the duties of a standard scale teacher.
