Brookline Baseball Softball League Manager/Coach Guidelines
As Manager/Head Coach, you are responsible for:
- Coordinating / building team practice plans, handling cancellations and rescheduling
- Practices and Games should be supervised by at least two (2) coaches/parents.It will be the responsibility of the head coach to ensure this happens.
- Communicating all practice and game scheduling information to parents and assistant coaches
- Communicating your absence and ensuring hand-off of equipment with assistant coaches and providing them with practice or game plan
- SafeguardingParent/Player Code of Ethics andPlayer Medical Release forms.
- Forms MUST be on hand atALL times for practices and games
- Ensuring your coaching staff or a volunteer prepares the field. The home team rakes and chalks the field before a game and visitors rake after a game. (Please rake in the direction of the base paths)
- Communicating injury reports to league coordinators
- Communicating unresolved complaints to the age division coordinator
- Attending monthly league meeting
- Assisting with preseason skills assessments (if applicable)
- Providing a post season skill assessment on each player to the age division coordinator
- Calling umpire coordinator when a game is cancelled or rescheduled (if applicable)
- Providing two wrapped game balls to the umpires (if applicable)
- Communicating equipment needs to equipment manager
- Distributing participation trophies on last day of play
- Attending at least two coaching clinics
- Being a Role Model - Inappropriate, abusive or foul language will not be tolerated at any time.
- Concerns, issues, questions, etc... with any Umpires, Referees, Coaches or Game Officials will be handled off the field.Violations will result in disciplinary actions.
- Giving positive feedback whenever possible and should be given in a constructive, encouraging and non-intimidating manner.
- Providing instruction 1st, development 2nd and winning 3rd.Share your love and knowledge of the game and allow each of your players to grow from this experience.The challenge and joy of the game is through striving to win, not the winning itself.
As an Assistant Coach, you are responsible for:
- Aiding the Manager/Head Coach during all practices/games
- Performing the Manager/Head Coach practice and game duties when he/she is absent
- Parent/Player Code of Ethics andPlayer Medical Release formsMUST be on hand atALL times for practices and games
- Attending monthly league meeting (optional unless Manager/Head Coach is absent)
- Assisting with preseason skills assessments (if applicable)
- Attending at least one coaching clinic
- Giving positive feedback whenever possible and should be given in a constructive, encouraging and non-intimidating manner.
